Disclaimer: this review may contain spoilers. So if you don’t want the movie ruined please read ahead with caution.
If you haven’t seen this movie, you must stop what you are doing right now and go see it. If you have seen this movie, you can finish whatever it is that you are doing and then go see it again. By far the best comedy that has been out in the theaters in a long time, this movie will have you rolling in the aisles.
The Premise:
A mild mannered buddy flick about a couple of guys who lie, cheat and steal to get into bed with women they meet at weddings. Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson (who formerly worked together on Zoolander and Starsky & Hutch and soon to be working together again in Outsourced) hit the ground running when wedding season comes around, but the fateful wedding of a Congressman’s daughter leads them into 119 minutes of pure Hollywood magic.
The Execution:
If you can’t tell by now, I LOVED this movie. It has been a long while since I have found a movie to be funny enough to keep my interest throughout the whole thing and this one does that and more. The unusual predicament the characters find themselves in lends itself to multiple awkward moments and burst of laughter that would require you to be on guard if you are consuming a carbonated beverage at the same time. The love interests played by Rachel McAdams and Isla Fisher are wonderful eye candy. Albeit this movie does seem to be geared towards men, women will find the story appealing and driven by the complex relationships as much as the farcical and at times painful situations throughout the film. Needless to say it is a great movie and can easily be appreciated by both sexes.
The Conclusion:
Owen and Vince are probably the best comedic team to come along in a good while. They work well off of each other and their interactions and point/counterpoint behavior at times makes the movie. The fact that the characters are similar yet throughout the film they view things completely differently helps to not only cement their believability but their sincerity as well. I think you will enjoy the ride that is Wedding Crashers, again and again and again and again…
I give this one 3½ out of 4 Gnomes.
