Hey, just wondering if any necros find this spell useful. Two different scenarios, solo and grouping; in solo, I need to use Vile Ritual (maybe this will change with transmogrify, I just hit 15, so I don't know yet) to regen my power. If I raise a minion and just wait for my power to regen naturally, by the time it's at a useable, I have just seconds left on the minion. In a group, I'll either need to use vile ritual (much less so than while solo'ing), or it simply doesn't last long enough to be worth the 100+ power cost of the spell. Simply put, I'm way better off dropping a bone spike III, or another DoT for the same cost, as it'll do far more damage. Any tips from necros would be nice, or, alternatively, hope for the future-are our future minion spells better?

Since I never run out of mana I just call him up for shits and giggles and throw him into the fray :>. Now how his DPS is. I have no idea :D

I find it to be fairly useful when soloing. Fights usually go something like this.
1) Send Abomination to attack mob
2) Cast Crippling Blight
3) Cast Plague of Pestilence
4) Cast Torment
5) Cast Devouring Shadows
6) Mob dies. I'm usually still at around 80% mana at this point.
7) Loot mob
8) Cast Necropsy and loot
9) Cast Ritual Animatus. I'm usually at or near full mana at this point.
10) Send Animated pet to attack next mob
11) go back to step 1
The animated pet dps depends on the type of mob you are animating because it replicates the mob you just killed, including some of the mob's spell casting abilities. Usually it's not a terribly large amount of dps, but it's basically a free 30 second DoT, so why not use it? It certainly improves soloing efficiency, but I think it would have rather limited usefulness in a group depending on what the group was fighting. It may be more useful in a group to cast Vile Ritual depending on the situation.

Yeah I can imagine this being really useful in a raid after fighting top mob # 2, killing it and then just as you attack mob boss 1 you call top mob #2 animated and send it on the boss. Even if this guy is reduced in the amount of original damage he can do, it will still be some nice dps added.

Exactly how many minions can u have on the go at once, only one so far not including abomination, but actual undead servants?

At my level only 1. But during beta with the level 30 Buffer I was able to have 3 at a time and my pet.
It opens a totaly different pet bar and it has it's own command. During beta this big ass dragon was spawned in the Veil of the Sister(??) and tons of us were trying to bring it down. Well, I just kept back and kept on calling up minions and my pet (Not sure but I think the dead things I was calling were players bodies I was using. Not 100% on that one).

It would be funny as hell if you could raise a player using the Ritual Animatus. So not just a minion, but a copy of the player, to use as a minion. But for all I know you can.

I just got this spell myself and haven't yet found a use for it. But I imagine during solo quests it would come in much handy for hate purposes. Most of the time Vile Ritual's the way I go though.

Hey necros have an evac spell, how that makes sense I don't know (Although I really like having it!). So why not animate your fallen party members? lol It'll be like a temporary res..? That'd be awesome... maybe I can ask someone nearby to die so I can test this theory...

We get Underworld journey, which wil whick you and your group within range to the nearest safe spot. Also, on Ritual animatus, I noticed if they use any abilities while living, they use it while summoned. The cyclops at the greyring were awesome to start off the fight, since they like to stun.
I use it for some extra firepower, it's just another dot. Freaked out a PUG with it as I called up a recently killed named with it. We didn't kill the named, so I wasn't even expecting it. Did nice damage though.
