Is not using abomination with dark elf dragon intended, or a bug?

Someone told me it was a bug, intended to be fixed. Is this true? Is so I'll make a dark elf necromancer because more pets is always a good thing.
If not, I'll just go with the cat race as my necromancer.

I don't know if that is intended or not. I do know the "Child of Haelifur" doesn't stay out for long (it's buff however lasts 15 minutes).
