View Full Version : How much Int/Level is required to pass the perceive check

I have been pondering this, and I just dont know. I know that sometimes I manage to pass the perceive check. However what I am wondering is if there are any clear lines to cross to make sure that you can pass it.
Does anyone know if there is a magic number of INT which will assist in passing the perception checks to know who a mob has targetted?
Thanks,
[EDIT] I am a Warrior btw, but if anyone knows the numbers for any of the def tank classes I am interested.

I don't know the answer to that question. We have been debating stats in another thread and were wondering about this and other INT related questions.
I think it is probably percentage based related to the level of the mob you are attempting to detect. So, if you max up INT for a few levels you will get good checks..but, if you leave INT where it is after this point and work on something else, your checks will likely drop as the mobs you face get higher and higher..make sense?

I don't have an answer, but can share my information. I'm currently level 22, and up until this level I put my extra points into INT (dex, con, int). Even with the extra points in INT, I would still get ??? most of the time. My cleric friend that focuses on WIS gets ??? quite a bit. At this point I really don't think there's any way a warrior could ever have enough INT (or WIS) to be useful. I've already started moving these points from INT into STR (with the gamble that STR will someday be useful).

Has anyone checked to see if it's related to mob levels? Do you always pass the check on level 1 mobs?
It seems annoying to give us this ability, then set the success rate low unless you put enough into wis/int that you gimp your primary stats.

After raising WIS for a while I think it was a waste imo.
You wanna know who the mob is hitting.... just look at it. Make sure your healer/DD isn't standing on top of you and it's very easy to see. Not to mention when having multiple pulls you're not gonna be able to see the adds' target anyway.
I imagine in a raid that you need to know who the mob is targetting, having a caster class assigned to annouce that for you might be a better idea than having a warrior trying to raise WIS for it ourselves... if you even need to know that at all.

If Wis and Int arent helping with the Perception then they should be more. I would call that bugged. Otherwise there is no good way to tell in a raid situation when there are 23 others standing aroundalso from a targeting standpoint to trigger a rescue LoS (Line of Sight) could prevent you from targeting the ally to preform the rescue. I like having to dedicate stats in order to percieve but if this is never achievable then to me that is broken. Much like Str was...

I have been pondering this as well. Int, via the tool tip info is the stat to raise your perception which i have gathered leads to identifying your offensive targets target. Now i am playing a psi. For this class it really is easy where to place points on the primary stat choices, that being int and wis. In addition this class has very nice buff to int and wis. That being so my int is quite high and I assumed that it would stand to reason that i would be seeing my offensive targets target at some point. I went into a dungeon at 18 , forget which one, that had 20 - 22 4 dots and a 23 5 dot mini boss. Full group of 20's. I may be wrong but i believe i was the only toon with any int buff. In any case i was seeing my offensive targets target. At last! I told myself.
I am now out in the wild with a group of 2 others and we are fighting 18 -19 2 dot mobs and I cant see my offensive targets target. My int wasn't any lower
Why? was it the mob, ie one dumber than the other? Was it the size of the group or its class make up? Is it simply a bug? I ask my self these kinds of questions because it didn't make sense to me and there seems to be a lack of definitive info from Sigil on this.
I am posting here to add this experience/observation to this piece of the current VG stat/ability puzzle.
There seems to be more to perception than meets the eye :).

But how could you be sure you were talking about the same target?
"Hey, the guy you just wacked is actually beating on General Standard!"
With three seperate stats having some sort of airy relationship with SA I'm figuring that all must form some sort of calculation. I dumped some points into Int (noticing no difference) but I'll be jiggered if I'm going to throw yet more into Wis to see if that makes any difference when as previously stated level may also play a role. So my chucking points at the situation may all still be for nothing because my stats remain too far behind to make a significant difference.
Of course all the while my other stats would be being ignored.
