View Full Version : I fought a blue 2dot...

And I lost. I got jumped last night by a single level 14-15 2 dot mob, so I didnt get my initial damage from crit shot/dawn arrow in. I am level 17, and this mob killed me. After the last patch I take a much, much larger amount of damage, to the point where I sometimes have to run from blue 2dotters. This is pathetic. And on top of that, I now miss a ton. I miss with my special attacks, I miss with my windsong, I miss with swelter(well that misses alot anyway). I noticed that I now do a bit more damage, when I can actually hit, but that doesn't matter, because I never do. My weapon skills are maxed at my level, and before the patch I was fine. To top it off, my Crit Shot used to crit about 95% of the time, letting me use dawn arrow on almost every pull. Now I am lucky to crit with it 75% of the time(my dex is maxed for level). That may not seem like much, but when my melee output and damage avoidance/mitigation are also at about 75% it adds up. Quickly. I have tried Accuracy Stance, and that doesn't seem to help at all, it just makes me dead quicker.
I don't know if anyone else has experienced it, but it is quite annoying. I don't mind a little balancing, but this has made me weaker than I was 3-4 levels earlier, and that is not cool. So if you get a chance, Wild, please ask if the balance people are aware of all the detrimental effects the last patch has had on my survivability.
Oh, and I haven't seen an increase to my bow damage at all from my maxed dex.
Thanks.
Edit: Sorry, I forgot the obligatory ZOMG SIGIL YOU BROKE RANGES NOW THE GAME IS UNPLAYABLE AND BROKEN GG!!!!!!1 ;)

I think it would be very helpfull for the Devs if you included Information about your Weapons/Armor and who the Mob was.

It happened with a few blue con mobs in the Kojan area, mobs that I had easily solo'd 3-4 levels earlier. I have a Brutes Longsword and a hardened meteor shard as weapons, and average armor. I have not changed any equipment since the last time I hunted and yet my ability to not get stomped by blue mobs has decreased dramatically. It is quite upsetting, I do not want to have to bow kite to be able to solo effectively, if I wanted that I'd play my EQ ranger.

Don't mean to call you a gimp, but I've noticed nothing but an increase in damage, and I dodge slightly less but parry more. Check your durability? Change fight strategy? I'm doing 3x more damage and I can solo level 20 3 dots at 21 now without kiting. (In Tsangs tomb)

There's no way we can examine what happened to you without knowing:
Your equipment
Your stats
The name of the NPC you were fighting
Truthfully even that's not all the info.

I know this may sound like a dumb question, but....the durability on your items isn't 0%, is it? (ie. Have you repaired recently and consistently?) The item stats on items becomes meaningless when durability reaches 0% and could explain your sudden loss in effectiveness.

I repair every time I see a general vendor, and the cost is never more than 3c per item, so I can't imagine any of my equipment being broken. And as to the comment above about being a gimp, I could previously solo 2-3 dotters 2-4 levels above me without any real problem, I have played Rangers for years, I do not think my skill is an issue.
The mob that killed me first was I forget the name, but the panther near Jalens Crossing that is for the Shaman quest(I was told). I killed it a few times when I could pull it, but when it was able to hit me first and I could not get my bow damage in is when it killed me. The other mob that nearly killed me was one of the wolves in the House of Fallen Leaves area, any time one aggrod me instead of me pulling it I ended up the fight at less than 20% hp, which is sad for me being level 17 and it being 14-15.
As for my gear, my weapons are:
Mainhand: Hardened Meteor Shard
Offhand: Brutes Longsword
Bow: Gifted Elven Bow
My armor is not quite as good as my weapons, but I don't ever have money.
Armor:
Head: Chalky Hide Cap
Ear: Ulvari Destroyers Signet
Face: Icy Stare
Shoulder: Chain Pauldrons of Harmony
Chest: Okami Fur Tunic
Arms: Brigands Armguards
Neck: Rusted Amber Pendant
Wrist: Chalky Hide Bracer
Waist: Webbed Chain Belt
Hands: Stained Leather Gloves
Legs: Okami Fur Pants
Feet: Pugas Boots
I have no rings, cloak, and am missing an earring.
My stats are:
Hit Points: 1457
Strength: 97
Constitution: 75
Dexterity: 140
Vitality: 70
Intelligence: 35
Wisdom: 38
Armor Class: 292
Melee Attack: 140
Defense: 1853
Those are my stats without self buffs. All of my weapon skills are max(for the weapons I am using). I was in evasive stance when I died. The problem seemed to stem from lack of being able to hit the mobs, really. I tried accuracy stance but it did not seem to help. I noticed that about 3/5-4/5 of my Blade of Winter, Blade of Summer, and Cripples seemed to miss. My Windsong hit about half the time. I do not mind that I died, I die alot, it comes with being the exploring type. What I do mind, however, is not being able to hit mobs, especially when they are a lower level than me. When I do hit in melee I have noticed an increase in damage, though, so the strength thing is evidently working. I have not noticed any increase in my bow damage though, I still average my crit shot at 550-600 and my Dawn Arrow at 400-500, which is the same as before the patch.
I am sorry if it seems like I was whining, I wasn't, I just thought that perhaps something was wrong since I can't hit things anymore. Perhaps I was just having a fluke of a night.
Addendum: I just realized this, I am not sure why I did not think of it before. At the times when I was getting stomped by mobs I was harvesting, or in between harvests so I was wearing my harvesting gear, so perhaps it has to do with not switching over from harvesting to adventuring when I enter combat? Or is it designed that way, so that you do not get adventuring gear stats for a fight when you are attacked when in harvesting gear? I should have realized this and posted it in my OP, but I forgot.

The equipment should change automatically but any additional hp's or energy gained from your equipment will need to regen first, of course this is in combat regen and takes a while. I have been caught like this too, not having enough energy to see off mobs within a couple of levels of my own. My current equipment adds about 40% energy, as an offensive caster this is a lot to be down at the start of a fight if you are caught off guard.

I might be jumping in this a bit late--
I also have a ranger (he is close to 20)...
I havent noticed anything with my hit/miss ration or even my damage mitigation.
However the one thing I have noticed is that with both of my movement debuffs, the resist rate is astronomically high, in about 3hours of play, I was resisted, I am going to say 95% of the time (I recall maybe twice that this stuck)...I was mostly fighting even con to low blue con, helping some friends do the evendusk quests.
I heard over general chat that other Rangers were having some issues with resists also.

As a 17 ranger I noticed as well that our melee lacks a bit. If I can use crit shot and dawn arrow, everything is fine. But if the combo misses or if I get an add and have to go melee, it will be a close fight.
Just got killed by 2 lvl 14 2dot mobs (Stonesmasher something, these task mobs around Three Rivers). Pulled the first with crit shot which missed, got an add and so I had to go melee with them. Activated ferocity at the beginning. Got some misses, no crits... It was close but I died.
Would have used Entangling Web if it worked reliable, but normally I don't use it in an emergency situation... I just run.
Think the problem is, that we can do good burst damage (bow and swelter chain for example), but if the fight lasts longer, our melee damage lacks because of the endurance system. You can only watch your own health bar go down while using a special when endurance ticked in.
My stats (not logged in atm, so I only write what I surely know):
str 109
con 61
dex 170+
vit 70+
hp 1400+
using 2 blue lvl 21 daggers (13.xx dps), a blue bow with 48 damage, many crafted armor named Brute's (blue, lots of dex on it)... overall equipment expertise is around 90%

As an High Elf Blood Mage (see sig :p) doing harvesting, too, my experience is that each and every time I get aggro while harvesting of in-between harvests, as I soon as I enter combat and/or hit a combat skill, it auto-switches my gear. If yours doesn't do that, it would either seem to be a bug, or something in the settings (not that I've ever seen anything pertaining to it..).
Hence, I can't say if it would really do a difference, fighting in harvest gear, but I suspect it doesn't do any. Stats are prolly separate for each sphere and not really modified by whatever clothing you currently "display".
Good luck !

I think that perhaps I was just having a really bad night, as I logged back in last night and I was fine when fighting, I tested everything I could think of to get aggro while harvesting etc. to see if I would get stomped. I don't know what happened, but I did not fight very much that night, so it was only a few fights, and those few must have just been very unlucky. Perhaps Shissara(sp?) the panther thing is mislabeled as a 2dot, I thought it was odd that a quest named was a 2dot, but oh well. I still miss more than I would like, and I still see no bow damage improvement from my dexterity, but such is life. Sorry about bringing up an issue that was really just a fluke, it seems, but I thought it was something serious at the time. In the future I will do more testing before posting :o

I'm a level 36 Ranger, Vulmane.
My stats are:
Str:204
Con:133
Dex:387
Vit:103
Int:64
Wis:138
My Weapons are:
Nusin, Longsword of the Ages (50.64 DPS)
Mercurial Infineum Longsword (22.31DPS)
Carmella's Longbow (84-84)
I'm happy with my Ranger, i hit hard, hit a lot (see Stalkers Grace III) Ive noticed considerable damage increase in my Melee from Str buffed, and about 100 more damage with my bow shots since the patch. But Rangers spells are so unreliable they might as well take them away, our Heal was nerfed so that id rather bow kite a mob its so worthless, i have spells land 95% MAYBE, my Swelter NEVER lands (really no clue why this is, since Sidesplit works) My dodge/parry sucks compared to what it used to be, i kite kill most of my time soloing because it doesnt have the downtime melee does, since my heal was nerfed.
If they would fix Ranger spells so they landed it would make the Ranger world so much kinder. (AND ALSO FIX OUR HEAL!)

Agree. I'm only lvl 18 but see the same problems. Our crowd control spells are totally useless, I just run if I get an add. Even our tame gets resisted most of the times... don't know about the higher spells we get.
Food can do the same as our heals, as it is pretty useless in a fight due to its 3 sec casttime. If it would be a 1.5 sec cast and the healed amount to energy ratio improved again, I wouldn't complain.

I am dead meat if I get an add. ANY add. I was fighting an even level mob and his pet or some wandering mob that was 8 levels lower jumped in. I couldn't beat an even level 2 dot and the weakling pet.
I have never won a solo fight with more than 1 mob, at any level.
I find our utility spells to be weak... even if they land, they're too weak to effectively do what they're supposed to do. They may be fun in a group, but with a ranger supposed to be the wandering outdoorsman type, it's disappointing that he can't hold his own againt two of anything.
Of course I imagine if I would go find two green one dots half my level I'd be ok, but when other classes can solo 2-3-4 three dots at one time, that are OVER their level, it stinks we can't take two even con two dots.
