He's only level 2, but I was wondering what kinds of things I can look forward to; I was thinking of making a Phoenix Shaman because they look cool

Just rolled a cleric. I'm lvl 8 atm and can do things I could only dream of with my ranger at about lvl 11 (lvl 18 atm). I run around with vendor bought gear (lvl 6), don't need anything else and even don't need to use all the abilities I have.

So, where is the balance?

Rangers need work, this is for sure. I played one a bit and could not take it.

The cleric is fine, it is the ranger who needs to be buffed up a bit.

And my cleric is not like yours, mine needs to have all her good gear on and use most abilities to be good at her job. Not sure what your doing with yours, but to be effective in groups and pvp you may need to rethink not using everything.

Best way I can give to check out in detail what you are capable of doing at higher levels is to just hit up a Shaman Trainer and scroll down the list of your skills. You wont be able to see all your skills due to Patron abilities being learned through ways outside of the Trainer, but it will at least give you an idea of the role of your class.

As far as which Patron to choose, its really up to your personal preference and play style. I am a Hayatet(Bird) Shaman myself. I originally chose this Patron for Acuity, which is the Shamans own line of mana regen buffs. I enjoy end game raiding and had that in mind when I chose this Patron. Unfortunetly I found out too late that Acuity no longer is stacking with the Psi's line of mana regen. This leaves me feeling uneasy. A skill, that I thought was the bread and butter of my patron, is now probably almost never to be used on raids. So think carefully about how you plan to spend your time and make a decision from there.

You can find a lot of information about Shaman Patrons and spells here Vanguard Shaman Site (http://www.vanguardshaman.com/forums/)
I woudlnt go by the spells list they have there tho as its out of date. The forums are a good read for some information

I have phoenix and I can say for sure that looks is only good thing in it. It gives zero bonuses, dies easily and makes lousy damage. Totally borked. If you want working pet take wolf or bear.

Nice one... I think that now I need to craft a shotgun in the game and shoot down my phoenix for good. That info makes it totally useless :(

I love my shaman too, but my pet phoenix is still totally borked no matter how I look it.

You wrote earlier that you enjoy raid.

Let me guess ;) The infamous overpowered shamans and clerics are not what parses on top when it is about healing: Its more like the bloodmages and disciples rule the chart ? And when the shaman dropped his ward and the time stands still for a while, then his DPS is so bad that it hurts ?

Thats just wild guessing from a vet, but one who never raided in vanguard. Am i completely wrong ?

Lvl 21 Shammy here, soloer, and having a blast.Went wolfie for 1 very important reason..if mobs cannot catch you, they cannot kill you!I wont bore you with details, but have been to all continents doin recon and the only thing that really surprised me was a lvl 45 lion.Shammys have a good balance of spells, keep upgraded armor with stats and you will enjoy it.Do we rip thru the game? no..solo lvl takes time, but we go where we want, when we want, once we learn how to really use what we have..have fun.
