View Full Version : Skill leveling threshold?

Hey, question to any experienced diplomats out there... What is a good threshold to level up your diplo skill, and presence? For instance, I'm currently skill 66, soldier presence 7 (+6), and I'm doing a circuit of 3 75s and 3 50s of soldiers in Khal. When should I try and find 100 skill guys, and how long can I continue to reliably get presence off these guys? Anyone know what kind of threshold exists?

I am in my 60's as well. I have noticed that working the 75's is much better than doing the 50's. They are tougher as they start out with less points to get rid of but the results appear to move my Leveling faster.

You can get presence from any level NPC. You can get skill as well, but you will earn skill slower the lower the NPC is under your skill level.
Presence increases based on your margin of victory. If you beat the NPC and he has 10 points left, you will earn more toward your next point of presence than if he had 1 point left. So you can actually gain presence faster, in theory, by parleying with lower level NPCs.
The caveat to that is that by parleying with lower level NPCs, you will earn lower level information. So while your permanent presence increases will occur faster, you will get less useful gear from information turn ins.
At level 66 you can do up to level 100 parleys. 75's are probably good for now, but once you hit skill 76, I would try to do level 125 parleys. At 125 you start getting Significant information which will get you much better gear than you can get from turning in Crude info.

Holy Cow... That is amazing info to know. I have a few I know that I can repeatedly win with 10+ points left on their side.
Thank you very much that will go a long way to helping me out.

Being a Demand Race, you should head over to beat the snot out of the Flattery races:Halfling, Qualiathari, Kurashasa, Half Elf, Raki. Pick the parley that blocks flattery..is that gossip?
Being a Flattery race, if I take on reason races like LN HiElves and block demand or inspire, I tore up 150's at 108 and now I tear up the 200's since i just broke 150. (except one guy, he's tougher than the rest because he has a card that exploits flattery.)

I just hit 76, but haven't been able to win any battles against 126 NPCs. I'm a reason race (gnome) in Khal atm. Any tips for circuits that I can use by blocking off a racial specific around there?

I'm reason based also (Goblin). I pretty much stick to the convinces and incites in Khal. I've done some gossips, but not a ton. The civic card buffs help a lot, but you need to do gossips to get them up, so it can take a bit of work to do on your own. Best to find other diplomats to work with if you can.

Exactly...
I was having a terrible time with diplomacy until I started traveling a little and tried it in different cities.
As a dwarf(demand race), I discovered that the high-elves were very easy to beat with incite and can't remember the other parlay.
I found a group of 4 academics and just round-robined them for about 1.5 hrs. I went from 0 academic presence to 7, and gained about 30-40 pts in diplo.
So the secret to grinding it out seems to be to find a race whose deck will not match up with yours when you choose a parlay that blocks their primary.

Actually the secret is finding a set of NPCs that can't stand against you witha given setup and running about like a madman in a circle. Same encounter different NPCS like Raise Morale or something similiar.

There is also no shame in going against massively inferior opponents. Sussing out the deck and divising an appropriate strategy for a high level opponent can seriously tank your prestige and faction (I have gotten up to -16 point hits on both).
By starting with low level opponents you can easily decimate you not only build up some station presence quickly, but you gain a buffer for losing against the high end ones. Then, once you have that buffer and can comfortably take the high end NPCs for all they are worth, that is when you cash in for skill raises and significant or higher information.

That's a nice chart phae, but what's it telling me? Better to have one that has the race vs stations (clergy, soldier, noble, etc) that way if i see a xx for flattery for say half elf nobles. I know to stay way. I can't beat another flattery race. But if I see xx for reason for goblin academics, I know I can dominate those fools.
