Is the damage from the spells on staves and wands the numbers listed on the weapon damage? Or does it seem to be random?

Well, it is kinda random.

It seems to be mostly based on the level of the staff. I've got a level 37 staff with Shock II that does more damage than my level 30 staff with Shock III.

Is based off of the level and rarity of the staff.

Err...so the roman numeral after the effect name means nothing?

Number means nothing for me, i have wand with psionic bolt V, wand lvl 23 i think. I got lvl 33 wand with divine bolt II, which should be 2 grades above my old wand, unfortunately it does half of the damage of my old one :/

Not completely; it goes from I-V from level 1-25 and then restarts I-V with new abilities from 26-50. Can be a bit confusing, I guess.

UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE YEAR

I think what Cylus means is that at 26 it is supposed to get a new ability name as well. So it would be like this:

1-25 Shock Bolt I-V
26-50 Shock of Pain I-V

(or some other random spell names)

I might be interpretting that wrong though. ;)

Nah, you're spot on.

I could be mistaken on this, but I think that int or spell dmg focus... basicly anything that effects your regular spells effects staff/wand effects.

I say this for two reasons, I've been using the same wand for some time now and I've seen it increase from about 80 to 110. It would also make sense to me that you can cast the ability in a macro, ie. /cast "Poison Bolt V"

Int and spell damage focus does effect wand damage. Also the wands do a specific type of damage ie arcane, physical and are effected by that type of spell focus also. The macro you want for a wand is /itemuse "wand name" but only works if the item is in a bag, if in your hand the /itemuse command dont work.

I know that, I just posted a macro guide not long ago :P I haven't gotten around to testing the /cast "effectname" out yet but I was told ingame that it works for an item equipped whereas /itemuse works for one in your bag (I prefer this method, but there are cases where your best effect and stats are on the same item which makes /cast useful if it actually works for wands)
