View Full Version : How well does leap attack work for closing distance in PvP?

Hi. I've always enjoyed heavy melee in MMORPGs. Warriors can put out some pretty strong DPS if they're specced and geared appropriately, but my main concern is obviously the succeptibility to snares and roots. I only play these games to PvP for the most part, so this is a big concern.

So my question is, how well does leap attack work to close the distance between people? I'm thinking if you use a combination of bow from a distance when rooted/snared, leap attack to close the distance followed by a stun and some sort of crit chain, it might work decently.

But i've already rolled too many chars to roll one myself and find out, so any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,

-Andrew

I havent noticed any distance closing from leap attack. I think it gets its name because the animation jumps in the air and brings the weapon sweeping down. You dont actually move towards the target like "charge" skill in WoW.

As far as i can gather from my leap attack, it's a purely up-down leaping motion that's going on and not a leap over a distance. As such I doubt it would provide much use in terms of closing the distance to a ranged foe.

Hope that helps.

Oh, well I misread things then.

That really sucks. Guess my dreams of playing a melee are at least temporarily over.

Shadowbane had a much better system for handling roots and snares; they lasted less time, had a recast timer, and a bunch of classes had a 'snare/root break' that was an instacast removal of all roots/snares, which was on a decent sized recast timer. All roots also broke with damage instantly.

Easy system to implement, and gives melees a good chance, especially with wise use of their snarebreak.

Leap Attack definitely closed distance during the beta- they've changed it for some reason. I used to be a very nice way to draw a group of mobs away from the main body and generate some quick hate on a potential add. They've changed it into a straight melee attack though, for some reason. Maybe they felt warriors just had too much 'flash'...

Heh, they changed it because it was annoying as hell to guess the distance, hit the leap attack button, and then wait for the delay to cook off before finally jumping. Now we can just spam it for good DPS. I don't see how it was ever useful whenever it made you jump the distance was worthless and the delay made it even more worthless.

Can't argue with that- it did look cool as hell though...

It seems like last patch brought it back to what it was before....

Try a Dreadknight. Shadow Step is a 35 meter teleport to the back of the target. I don't PvP, but I imagine that it'd be almost overpowering when used correctly. Cool for catching runners too.
