I really can't stand crappy forums. There have to be 432908723 software packages FOR FREE that will give you a nice, clean, user friendly set of forums. Why is it that so many sites...who may very well have important information that I NEED...seem to feel that posting, searching, and navigating their forums should be some form of Olympic-style event?
I cannot stand forums with no edit button on my posts. I'm not really sure what the reasoning is behind this, but it just plain sucks. There has got to be a better way to do whatever it is you are trying to do by taking out the ability for people to straighten out typos. I absolutely cannot stand staring at a typo I made and realizing there is no edit button. It makes me want to twist the heads off of whoever made that baby and bathwater tossing necessary.
And this is completely unrelated, but came up while I was trying to spellcheck this post. I really have a hard time figuring out what the programmers who created MS Word got paid for. There are an absolutely massive amount of options and functions and features within MS Word, but every time I want to do something, I discover that it is the one exception and is either completely impossible in MS Word, or else the way to do it is so convoluted that literally two people in the world could remember it for any length of time…the programmer who thought that was a good idea, and God…who will of course exact revenge on said programmer in the afterlife.
When I opened MS Word for the first time on my new monitor… it was maximized, and I am nearly positive that it changed by itself to show two pages side by side (in a normal view mode). I windowed it yesterday…and cannot for the life of me find a way to show two pages side by side again. It just…went away.
There is of course the "read" view…which seems to give you most of the functionality of the other views, except you get no rulers on the top and side for adjusting margins/spacing. The read view toolbar has a button on it, called "allow multiple pages". As near as I can tell, you cannot have this one single golden button on any other toolbar besides the read layout toolbar…and you cannot bring up the read layout toolbar in any other view. If I switch to normal view, and bring up the "customize" box…I can literally choose from 500 metric tons of buttons and toolbars. In fact, I'm fairly certain I can choose to display every single button and toolbar that MS Word has available… except…allow multiple pages.
I'm sure MS had a very good reason for not allowing two pages side by side when you are in print view or normal view. It was probably a reason like…"we want to tout it as a feature of the next version so you will buy it", or something equally logical.
At any rate…/rant off
