I have a question concerning this patch note update from a while back

- Disciple and Monk - Unarmed damage is no longer treated like rare weapons at all level ranges. From level 1-9 they are now common strength. From 10-19 they are now uncommon strength. From 20-39 they are rare strength. From 40-49 they are in between rare and ultra rare strength. At level 50 they are the equivalent of an ultra rare weapon in damage modifier. Monk and Disciple unarmed attacks still retain their improved speed and critical hit chance.

Does this mean that the rarity of a weapon determines its modifier value?
Saying I had a uncommon(green) axe with a DPS number of 15.00 and a Rare weapon of equal DPS(15.00), would the Rarity of the second weapon make it a better choice because the modifier return is higher? Thus making my overall DPS higher.

The numbers in the tooltips make my head spin at times and its hard to determine what applies to what.

Would rock if a Dev could post all the formulas to determine all forms of attack and defense values O.o

Don't think so. Based on what I've seen from crafting, between two weapons of the same type and level, the higher rarity will have a higher damage value (and thus higher dps).

So basically, what the patch note says to me is that to beat unarmed damage from a h2h weapon for a disciple or monk, at low levels, you just need any green weapon higher than your own level or better. In the teens, you'll need to find an overconning blue weapon. In the twenties and thirties, if it's not yellow or significantly higher in level (as a blue), it's not going to outdamage you. And 40 and up, you'll need legendary or significantly higher level weapons to outdamage your fists.

This is, well, quite surprising to me, as it basically invalidates crafted 1-handed martial weapons at higher levels, unless when they get around to fixing the ultra-rare upgrades they turn out orange.

Hell, I can't even put vitality on disciple weapons/armor to make them attractive to grouping discs for stats. The only thing going for crafted handwraps is +healing focus. =/

Well I could go along with that if the numbers matched up. The unarmed DPS of a monk is still better at lvl 36 than if he/she has 2 Rare dual wield weapons that are several levels higher than 36.

If a level 36 monk is suppose to have hands that would compare to a rare lvl 36 weapon, then why dont rare weapons higher than 36 boost the dmg instead of lower it.

It's not about levels, but weapon dps. From what I have seen, equal dps weapons are the same regardless of rarity. However, it seems that uncommon/rare items will often reach higher dps at lower weapon levels.

For my level 15 monk, it takes 10-12 dps weapons to equal my bare hand dps.

Skill levels are also very important when calculating these. If your weapons are not skilled up well, you'll miss a lot and your dps will suffer accordingly. This might not always be very apparent and you really only notice it over time when comparing the two types against the same mobs.

As an aside, monks should carry back up weapons even if they primarily use bare hands. I have run into a named mob that is immune to bare hand damage, if it isn't a bug.
