Is Silky still a viable "Fansite"?

As of lately..compared to TTH and others...this forum has gone down the crapper imo. It's mainly the VG hater's heaven.

I no longer come here for useful information. I know the Devs read these forum since a lot of Bugs get posted, but pretty much it's just thread after thread of VG bashing. Any positive thread is brought down pretty quick by the same 10 people.

This is pretty much just a fun place to argue at this point. Am i wrong? Does anyone find useful, helpful info here to use in game?

Definately agree with you. Tbh, i dont understand why half the people here play this game, because they seem to hate it...and generally for the most obscure, exaggerated, or ambiguous reasons. I don't really understand how you can not like it.

It no different than ay of the other fansites, that i've found. What you're seening is primarily as symptom of the lack of official forums. At least there the complainers have to be players. The same can't be said here. That said, it's still the best site of the bunch, IMO.

TTH is just too white. It's way more useful for info if you ask me. This site is just cool looking. This community is NOT the community i play with every day though. Not in the least. This site is an embarrasment right now. It should no longer be called a "Fansite". I really don't want my friends coming here to read up on VG.

I agree..i mean i like a lot here on the site....but coming here kinda is making me ill lately. I just come here to torture myself mainly. I'd say, as an affiliate site..it's a huge failure.

Because it offers a real free exchange of ideas, it offers the rarest of all things to the developers, pure, unfiltered, uncensored, feedback (they can take it for what its worth, but it is a pure direct line from community to developers and I can think of no other place that actually exists).

It also (and frankly more importantly in my opinion) gives the community a truly neutral place to gather and express opinions, again unfiltered and all inclusively. This is a scary proposition today I know, but that fact, I find more frightening then just about anything else I can think of.

I think the growth of members and active posts on this board over the last month prove it is not only a viable Vanguard fansite, but honestly, come on, it really is THE vanguard fansite.

This just happens to be the site most people who are angry come to from the VG home page. People are venting. Lots of them. The game started early and had lots of bugs. If it hadn't been Silky, it would of been another site. Just suck it up and keep up constructive posts, as the haters leave and the fans stay, it will get better.

A lot of other boards are a LOT more civil imo. I liked it here the most 2 months ago. Now...not so much. It's gotten old.

Silky seems fine to me :) I can't handle TTH interface, don't ask me why, it just bugs me.

I do wish Silky had a tiny bit different take on moderation. I see some threads get locked and others stay open and just am in bewilderment.

But I've said it before, its not my job to do, so I don't say anything.

I think they just do their best, I mean it IS like babysitting a kindergarten class and Im sure deciding who to lock and who to not lock and who to put in the volcano is a bit of a chore.

I was wondering today earlier if Labbrynth probably was wishing for a 'turn off the lights switch' where in kindergarten the teacher turns out all the lights and everyone has to hush up for a while.

And for those that asked.. yes today was hectic here. It was a bitch to put it lightly. It seemed we had a lot of people create random stupid ass posts, double posts, etc just for the hell of it - to irritate, to try to be trolls, for attention, god knows what else (because I don't)

I've been really lenient hoping that people would police themselves, have pride or at the very least, some sense of respect for others (let alone themselves). I still believe that things will even out at some point. However, at the same time I'm not ashamed to say I'm fast losing my patience with some people:) Not the new folks mind you, but the ones that should know better, the ones that have been here awhile.

Considering your comparing a site (SV) that has 12,000 registered users and average of 500 (give or take) active at any one time to a site (vg flames) that has 2,000 registered users and average of 50 (give or take) active at any one time... are you really surprised that we have more negative posts? Acutually long before VG was even close to release they had already announced there would be no official forums. Of course you would have had to have been following the development on the "Official Forums" at the time to know that ;)

As to what we can do?

Remain positive, contribute in the posts that benefit the populace. In short, rise above the negative and be an advocate for good.

I lurked for months, registered, added a little fluff, and then went back to lurking. I chime in when and where I can, and there is alot of work to swing the vibe back the other way. I went back and rezzed an old thread that interested me from last year. I agree there are some hostile people.

Time will help with that. Many early adopters are here to enjoy the game and help move it in a direction they find amenable, but some posters would rather fling their verbal feces like a primate without true language skills. For yor own enjoyment, you can be pickier about threads you follow. Doing so is not denial, it is selective participation in your discretionary time.

An internet community is what you make of it, I am glad to be a part of this, however small my post count.

major QFT... Among all of the affiliates, this one is the best, even with the AngryBeav's and people trying to stir up trouble :)
