The question is simple.
When do you say, when putting appart your personnal tastes and preference, that a MMOG is a "success".
I'll start:
A MMORPG is a success as long as you can find people to group with in the leveling process a few months after it went live. It means the game either attracted new players, which would indicate quality and positive word of mouth, or older players started new characters, which would indicate good replayability.
Example: EQ was a success from 1999 to 2001 because new players kept buying the game and creating new accounts, newbie zones were always full and leveling was simple. After 2001, the susbcription rate for EQ went down, the game went on with the playerbase it has acquired but its growth was stopped, it was no longer a "success".
