...the overhaul of my computer reasonably well. At least no one was seriously hurt :)

This weekend was traumatic in that my beloved computer was taken apart and put back together again with a new OS, new motherboard, new RAM, new video card...however, I still don't have all my data back up, including my email files (andmy writing files, which is driving me crazy). However, my computer is now so fast that I need to wear a seat belt to operate it and the wind blows in my teeth as I zoom from one site to the next. Vanguard, here I come!!

My new system:

AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+
2.01 GHz, 1.0 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT

My old one wasn't shabby but this rocks...well, so far! http://tkingart.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Anyhow, if you happened to have emailed me and I haven't replied, it's because I don't have my email system and files up yet. I hope to have them up by tonight or tomorrow night at the latest.

Congrats Raya,
I agree Labyrrinth new comps or upgrades on them are always a nice thing. My husband doesn't understand it when I get excited over the prospect of an upgrade :D

By the time Vanguard comes out, that will be a mediocre machine. :p

It's a "value performance" machine, and it will still be that when Vanguard arrives. Not everyone has $3k to spend... and as far as price/performance goes, that's a pretty nice box. It should play everything out now very well at moderate resolutions and settings...and it will play Vanguard. It's also an easily upgradeable machine. ;)

I'm not demeaning it. Brad told me, my computer was slightly above just barely able to run it. I'm just making fun of how annoyingly fast computer hardware gets better.

Thanks for your good wishes, everyone. (/bonk Ominous  ) Now that it has the Fozzik-seal-of-approval I can rest easy :D

And honestly, I am not used to this kind of speed. I still feel I have to pick the bugs out of my teeth after a surfing session. Now, if only all the files would reinstall themselves, I would be completely happy. Work on it, would you please, Fozz? :)

I just don't want people to get the false impression that they HAVE to spend a huge amount of money. Always remember that performance is usually a matter of personal preference, especially in games like MMORPGs. Some people might call medium settings and 25 FPS "WAY too choppy to be playable". Other people might feel like those same things look great. Still others might not care, as long as the crafting system is good. ;)

It can become a little confusing for someone new to computer gaming when all they see on the internet is discussions and benchmarks and comparisons of the highest-end bleeding-edge products. It's really easy to start to assume that is the only way to go if you want to play games. Every now and then I just like to put the breaks on and remind everybody that in reality, with a moderate amount of money, some good advice, and some comparison shopping...just about everyone can have a solid gaming machine.

Sorry if it came across that I was giving you a hard time...that wasn't my intent.
