Hail all. I am curious as to whether players will be able to buy horses, buildings, land or own any other virtual property. Also just a quick question whether there are any plans of implimenting mounted combat? (since this hasn't been done before and vanguard seems to be coming up with alot of things that haven't been done before ::D) Couldn't find any news / posts regarding this so if anybody could just point me in the right web-site / review or just post any knowledge they posess, that may help answering the question ::)

Looks pretty darn impressive so far. Most likely will end up migrating from EQ when it gets released..

It sure sounds like you'll be able to fight while on your horse! This game is going to be amazing

13.1.5 Will there be horses? How will they work, how important will they be, and are they just a status symbol or integral to the game?

Horses are integral to ground-based travel. We expect characters to own a horse fairly quickly to help with travel. Horses will also be able to store goods and even be enhanced with certain items, just like your character and/or your ship.

It is also possible for combat to take place while on a mount, or even while on board ships

Ahh, but would horses take damage, block hits which are meant for you, and faithfully carry you away from the clutches of the enemies untill collapsing from the wounds? Would you also be able to 'level up' the horses so that they can perform the above mentioned tasks better and would you be able to let your friend sit behind you on your horse?

Was more curious if something like that finally came out in MMORPGs, but I can already hear a faint "no, horses would just function as a nice graphic with speed increase" ::*(

Will still be a great game though hopefully.. Can't expect too much too soon ::)

A quote from Aradune in this (http://www.vanguardsoh.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=195267&highlight=rez+horse#post195267) thread from March of this year:

Believe it or not, yes, player house can be destroyed to the extent that they become a 'corpse' in a sense where you need a crafter to repair it (just as you need a cleric to rez your body). Same with ships -- they can be 'sunk', resulting in flotsam, but this too can be repaired by crafters. Any loot you have in your house, horse, ship, etc. is retained but only accesible after a rez/repair it.

I am hoping to live in a PB city very close to a high lvl dungeon...having to defend my city in between raids will keep me playing far longer than how they set up the classes...
Likewise, for PVP, being able to sink other's ships gives a whole new meaning to griefing pirates! :D

i don't know how many of you have played "mount and blade", but it's the best horse combat game i've found.

http://www.taleworlds.com/

there's a free demo that lets you play the full version of the game up to level 6. and if you like it, you can buy the complete version for 12 bucks. i ended up playing it longer than i play most retail store games i buy.

Someone posted about Mount and Blade on the OVF a while back (it might have been you). I was bored at the time, and so I had a go. It is quite fun!

The use of a mount in it is quite sensible. Mounts take a while to get started or up to full speed. If they are going fast and they hit someone, that person takes damage. Whilst on the mount you can slash people on either side by clicking on your desired side. You can use a spear to lance people, and the faster you are moving the more damage they take. If your mount comes to a halt then you and the mount are VERY vulnerable to melee or missile attacks. It doesnt take long to hack someones mount to death if they ride it into a wall.

Its a good timefiller. :)

Gonna try it now, the download size looks ultra small though..

Ok, Game review ::P
The graphics may be a bit off, the models may be a bit unproportional, the combat can get a bit more responsive and the gameplay can get more advanced. However this is the BEST single player RPG I've played up till now. If vanguard impliments this type of mounted combat and adds onto it, in my oppinion it would make the game worth whatever they will ask for it.

On top of that, the combat gets pretty realistic in a sense that whereas you will probably win a 1v1 combat, 1v2 gets pretty hard and you hardly stand any chance in a 1v3 on foot. On top of the horse, yes you can charge at a group of enemies and most of the time get away with it (normally what I do) but once they manage to spear or shoot the horse, you are pretty much dead. (Unlike 99% of the other games out there where you can literally take on a whole army by yourself *eg. Joan of Arc)

Now can somebody tell me how to get this darn lance attack to actually hit and if you can cure a lame horse? ::P

you can't cure a lame horse unfortuneately. i personally don't use a lance, i use a heavy great axe (39 dammage, 124 reach i think). when you're rushing someone while on horseback, wait until you're just about in striking range before swinging, otherwise the opponent will try to defend or get out of the way. the same goes for the lance, if you wait till your close before deciding which side to attack with the lance, you will se better success.

what's cool about this game is the modability. there's a few pretty good mods out for it already (check the forums), and some projects in the works (an oriental mod with complete storyline, characters, etc).

hopefully the map will be expandible/changeable soon and we can have some completely different worlds to play in and new places to go.

Combat on hourseback would be great, but I would want to see the physics of mounted combat rather than just swinging a sword while on a horse. Volier describes it quite well. What would this mean in a MMO?

Mounted combat is a lot like kiting, in that speed is your weapon. If you are just going to stand there and swing, might as well be on foot because it's more stable. Things like a lancing past may be too exploitable like kiting. Even harder would be the mass advantage for the horseman - pushing opponents back or disrupting attacks.

Then the cynic side of me thinks that people would expect too much from horses and never be happy. Horses are not three extra attacks a round (bite/hoof/hoof) nor would I see them as some senient being that sacrifices it's life for the player. It's seems like the path to a proper end is very hard, so I have low expectations for horse combat in VG.

Was thinking more in terms of the horse able to protect you in terms of taking damage for you (some hits) and just having horses which are more 'alive' than in other games..

Playing M&B now, really nice game, bunch of new patches released, and will probably be playing it for the next few years, even though its not multiplayer. See what vanguard is like when it comes out hehe

I made a post regarding horse enhancement on M&B forums actually, but it could be interesting to see how people would think it would work for MMO. Feel free to have a look http://forums.taleworlds.net/viewtopic.php?t=4693 ::D
