Yeah...the Vanbois are pushing up the haters numbers.
Let me say for the record though. SOME of the people whom i refer to as HATERS, are not actually true haters of the game, more than they are critics of the early release and unfinished feel. These people i feel are viable Vanguard members and should be lumped in with the Vanboi types to an extent. The numbers of these types are small and pretty intelligent and problably number 5-10 or so on the Silky site. To the not-really-hating-but-more-kinda-dissapointed-Almost-not-Vanboi...i salute you.

I'm sort of apathetic, but also examining long term appeal in the game.
I liked Vanguard for about a month, then it became less interesting, and a month later dull... All the while disregarding bugs performance and glitches because it was beta.
Everyone was crying their ass off about stuff that i thought was no big deal, and I was crying my ass off about stuff they seemed to actually like. Some were also in my camp, but not many.
So I cam to the conclusion that this is how it was and would be, and decided not to buy, but to test on as much as I could force myself to... it was dull for me and an effort, but I ran through as many newb quest lines as i could.
I did it with my main though...
So as well as chatting and spamming these boards with nonsence, which is sometimes fun, and occasionally preaching my game ideals, I'm also sitting like a vulture and watching this game as it struggles through it's prolonged beta and release, just to see how far off base I was.
I don't mean in 1 month or 6, I mean in a year or so, where will this game be?
Hopefully though darkfall will be in swing by then (beta), and I'l be pulled into that. If not i may end up playing Vanguard (with serious reservations intact), or move on to another game entirely. So I should be here for a year, that's my plan while waiting on DF. After that it's time to find something else to do.

I'm back on the Test server now with a level 35 that kept the Beta buff, lol AND we have Griffons we can use. I have to say, it was really nice to be able to explore the world again and really see just how damn big Telon is. It's pretty amazing. I like to explore in an MMO, but i can only play a game..ANY game in small doses myself. My attn span doesn't last long enough usually to keep playing for more then 3+ hours before i need a break to watch tv or go outside.
Darkfall looks cool in a lot of ways, but i have serious reservations about a game in development for 6+ years now. Something doesn't feel right about it really. I wonder how behind the graphics curve they will end out now, or how many changes need to be made to keep up with current game. Plus a PVP game may be too much for me to handle as i will get smoked unless i am constanly playing to keep up with the masses.

Well last time i played in beta, i'd log on for about 10-30 minutes and just feel so bored with it all.
I have a great attention span if i'm drawn into a game, and Vanguard never did that for me (never). As well as quests... I hate them with a passion, and mainly because of my independant nature. Hate to be led around.
Levels I never did like either, I want my skills and abilities to develop naturally by what I do, and if I don't do something I also expect my character to "forget" the skill or ability. So much more natural and realistic and.... immersive.
So my problem with Vanguard begins with the type of game it is, and yet does not stop there... but goes on from one thing to the next, only now enhanced by the type of game it is... Too many things to list, but it's just not my style of game. Does'nt mean it's a bad game, just not for me.
As for Darkfall
6+ years is not long when you look at Vanguard.
Vanguard had 2 major backers, almost the same cycle, and still is not ready for release, but it is playable... (also Brad and crew had their own funds)
Darkfall, no major backers....
Ok graphics.
Here I feel is one area you can debate with me, but I'd rather see an emphasis on gameplay over graphics.
What good are graphics if you have to turn them off in order to play (argument #1)
What good are graphics if the gameplay itself is mediocre (argument #2)
What good are graphics if you have to sacrifice other immersive aspects such as persistance (argument #3)
I made a statement about UO over at mmorpg and UO's new facelift (graphics upgrades (engine etctra)), went something like this... "you can dress up a dog, but it's still a dog".
In short, it does'nt matter how pretty a game is, if it plays like crap or is no fun, or just plain trivial. It does'nt matter because the graphics are superficial, just icing on a cake. Sure they are nice and do add to the flavor but they don't in an of themselves make the game any more fun.
If UO had'nt changed, as a 2D game... I bet i'd still be playing it, with it's 1997-2000 graphics. I'm sure I would.. just not full time as I once did, more casually. (I'd keep my account, and EA would be getting my cash) It was fun, and that is the only motivation neccesary.
On PvP...
Not to everyones tastes. no problem there. But Darkfall (and UO) did'nt have the greifing aspect in them, that todays MMOg's have. You may get griefed "one time", but if it happened again... it's because you went back for it.
Todays MMOg's have you griefed because you can't progress because a quest is being blocked, or a player spawn is being camped, or a variety of reasons. It's just better the old way. Much easier to understand and work with.
How I define trivial: The more a game does for you, the more trivial it is.
Dev's have taken the removal of tedium a little too far, it's important but they have made games much to automated. It's just too boring for me when it's too easy.
Anyways covered some ground here on what I like and don't like if you were curious. No hard feelings over Vanguard... I just posted a nice piece on Diplomacy over at MMOrpg in the pub conferance.
I think Diplomacy could almost get me interested in Vanguard again... (almost)

I think if and when Darkfall comes out i will pick it up. I would LOVE to see VG create an option on PVE to take it to guild wars if 2 guilds felt like it. Kinda like a Mass duel. Just have the 2 leaders agree to it and have everyone get flagged. Also be cool to take the boat idea along with it and have them sink if one guild wins a Ship to Ship battle.
VG is a bit ahead of it's time on the graphics plus a huge world right now. PC's will catch up though. It's just ideal for right now. Darkfalls looked pretty nice..not the best, i was more just wondering on what is taking so damn long to get it to some form of Beta. We all know hype is one thing. VG took a beating for hype.
I'm hoping Diplomacy proves for useful in VG, right now, i have no intrest in it. If it can really affect the world around us though, that is and will be very cool.

What? Thats like saying that Hitler had military superiority because the number of soliders and civilians combined had a huge death toll.

It was a figure of speach, considering that you are so young I actually was considering not posting it. I figured you wouldnt understand. I bet when some one says "that was a piece of cake", you go get a fork. But then again its always fun to point how dumb you really are. :D
