I'm guessing it's due to the direct melee damage patch, but looking through my abilities I couldn't pick out any that seemed to fit their definition. And it seems to be universal in all of my Offensive Fighters.
All I can say is that it's taking longer to kill mobs and as a result I have more down time where I have to heal myself up.
Anyone else seeing this? And does anyone have a list of what constitues a direct range or melee damage ability?

this makes me happy. It sounds much more like the game that Sigil talked about designing.

Except if you are a monk now your autoattack does more damage than your endurance-based specials.
And its not like monk autoattack is all that hot now.
The classes are massively unbalanced. I really have to wonder what the **** they think they are doing.

Spoken like a true overpowered Shaman that has zero downtime.

I long for downtime so I can talk to my group. I agree that MOST classes, shaman included, are overpowered at this point.

this is only true when playing a console game.

Fine, DCpunk, you are "hardcore." You like it when games force you to sit there doing nothing as you watch a bar slowly rise because it lets you socialize more. One wonders why you don't just get on AIM then so you can socialize and have all the downtime you want.
Most of us want a game rather than "nothing" (which is what downtime is.) For most people (and I realize this might come as a shock to you) being forced to look at a health bar slowly rise as you just sit there is boring. We want an action packed game where we actually, you know, do stuff.

Yeah 2 weeks is a little, you are crazy.
I have 18 days played and that is with no AFK time and I still have a bits to go to ding 50.
So eventually we will see more fixes.

HAHAHA. Which food? The food that _still_ takes forever to regain health? or the broken stuff. Have you even used food in this game??

I think he is referring to the.. get up from your chair and go get something to eat out of the fridge type of food.

Ohhhhh! Well that makes sense then. I'd weigh 300+ pounds if I did that every time I had to wait for health to regen.

I'm far from hardcore. I'm still level 17 because I only play maybe 2 nights per week. If I'm LUCKY I play a total of about 7 hours in an entire week. I'm as casual as it gets.
Also, you wouldn't be "forced to look at a health bar slowly rise" if you were getting to know your groupmates. Why else do you think most groups only last long enough to complete a quest? Because there is no vested interest in people helping each other out because the game is currently set up in such a way that there is no community being built. MMORPGs are nothing but console games without community. Downtime builds community.

I know my groupmates enough to call them names on ventrilo and have them give me wakeup calls on my cel. Downtime just leads to more namecalling on vent!

I remember have to open my spell book to med. They introduced /gems so you can pass the time while waiting on boats. That was when EQ was the ONLY MMO OUT other then OU and that was pretty much dead.
Downtime = empty developer pockets.
Downtime = boredom now
There is no excuse for downtime in these games anymore. Can't be, there are so many different flavors.

Downtime builds community.
This is a myth.
Good games build communities. Downtime is just silly. EQ got away with it, games of today will not. I'm not paying for a 3D IRC.
Those I play with stops now and then to chat anyway, downtime or not.

I think hes talking about downtime soloing where the responses are talk to your group *boggle*.
I group when i can and solo when i must and being a bard with a uselss regen song..i use food that is right for my level. (lvl 10, lvl20, lvl30 food etc.)
I may not be going from mob to mob in a beeline without ever stopping, but im not sitting for minutes either.
On easier mobs can go in a beeline..trying to tackle hard mobs and being down to like 10% health takes 20seconds or so to get to full.
I dont see the big deal.

Content that requires good communication to successfully complete builds community far better than expecting people to spontaneously get to know each other during downtime. Productive communication during uptime > forced conversation because you have nothing better to do.
Additionally, the prevalence of voice-chat makes downtime socializing irrelevant, as it is trivial to socialize while adventuring, even mid-combat.

IMO:
Time syncs (downtime included) draw the game out.
Games that aren't drawn out:
You max-level quickly, get bored, demand "new content", plow through that, demand more, then quit when "the game has nothing else to offer me".
Games that are drawn out:
Take REAL effort to experience, not fight, fight, ding, repeat.
This may not apply to you but, some people (myself obviously included) do not want VG to be a console version of EQ1. Some people LIKED the "grind" of EQ1, liked epic quests, liked the fact that fights took more than 30 seconds of frantic button mashing and actually liked the fact that there was downtime between fights.
It's my personal opinion that VG is way to easy. When you have dealt with boats in EQ1, truly painful CRs, 72 hour camps, etc, how can you play a game that is LESS difficult without saying "/yawn".
If anything I won't be challenged by a game until it is MORE painful than EQ1.
