Okay i know this has probably been asked plenty of times (I attempted to search but it gets timed out everytime for some reason).
What in your opinion is the best class for a beginner , at the moment ive only gotten 3 characters to level 5 lol (Druid, necro, paladin) so i know i havent truly experienced either of them yet.
Also what is your reccomended beginning race if you have one , I found the vulmane starting area (After the first camp) to be waaay to big and confusing and could not find any of the npcs i originally had accepted quests from , which led me to deleting the vulmane necro.

I'd say stick with the necro, firstly you have your pet to tank for you allowing you a bit of breathing space if things go slightly wrong. You also get some great abilities like Fear and should be able to take on more than one mob at a time.
I'd also recommend starting as a dark elf necro , the area around Hathor Zhi is pretty self contained at least for a beginner to get some quests under their belt. I found necro didn't really get going until about lvl 10 and then the fun really started :)
whatever you choose Good luck ;)

Very nice advice Elektra - I support that :)

Do make sure you are ok with the faction difficulties that DEs deal with before you make one. All of these places want to kill you as a DE.
New Targonor
Ahgram
Tursh
Leth Nurae
Rindol Field
Bordinar's Cleft
Khal (Except for Foreign Quarter)
Mekalia
Caial Brael
Tanvu
Working faction is pretty easy. I'm not sure the exact number but it's under 500 and they are generally low level mobs you have to kill in order to get firedly with these places.

I assume the next levels of pets dont suck as much as the level 4 , he practically gets decapitated within 10 seconds of attacking a level 5 2 dot.

Necros are pretty strong from what i can tell so far. Level 4 sucks period, lol.

The pet is a pretty pitiful tank, in my opinion. After a few levels anything worth fighting is going to devour him. Of course, grafts help, but he will never be a real tank for more than a few seconds. My necro can have the pet tank long enough for me to get 3 dots on, then i better get aggro or my pet is dead, and my DPS plummets.
Also, necro is not an easy class to play, in fact, it is one of the more challenging, to do well. I would say start with something with a bit of armor, mistakes as a cloth wearer are instant death.
I vote start with a disciple or shaman. I know they got "nerfed" or whatnot, but they are still VERY solid classes. Many still consider them to be stupidly overpowered, even after the changes. Do not buy in to the class envy though.
Edit: I see you have a pally. That is a good class to start with. You have a little room to mess up when solo and still survive, and tanks are ALWAYS wanted in groups. Stick with that.

That's what I thought as well. Why not stick with the paladin? He gets to wear heavy armor and can heal himself. That is to say until you find out what you really want. In my opinion you need to develop a "feel" for the game and it's mechanics before you know what really suits you.

Played a paladin some and I would suggest it as a start until you get more familiar with VG's game mechanics. As others pointed out, getting the most out of a necromancer, even early, takes a little knowledge that many of us might take for granted, but if you are new it might not be evident to you.
Basically with a Paladin it's pretty straight forward at first with good survivability and viable soloing ability.

I have quite a love of necromancers , ever since everquest 1 ive always wanted to play one, ive been told they arent too different here either.
Plus the idea of dissecting bodies for parts really appeals to me for some sadistic reason.
Also: Is there any information/guides on the dark elf beginner quest lines , most of them have been straightforward but the one with the mystic book and the skeleton hunt seem to be above my level and abilities, I also saw weaker skeletons wandering somewhere which i was wondering if they could be killed for the parts :O

I would say cleric. Clerics have a HOT that will keep you alive though most every encounter, they wear plate and do decent damage.
Well, I hear they nerfed clerics so your mileage may vary.

Of the two ive played (Necro hit 7, cleric just hit 6) im finding cleric alot more pleasing of the two, who knows i might just end up playing both.

a cleric is also welcome addition to groups.
as mentioned before being DE (orc, goblin, etc) will make it harder to travel.
It isn't hard to fix faction but it does require time. Each major city has their own faction which you can fix with killing mobs, crafting at outposts or doing some diplomacy. In most cases the mobs required to kill are low level. But in some cities like New Targonor there isn't an easy fix till you get to the upper teens.

I think necro's are a good class, but if you're new, I think you die easily.
As a cleric, Dread Knight, Paladin or Disciple you have to work to die. They're built like brick houses with enough protection to last through most things at level.
I can't think of an easier class to start with them one of those.

I worried about this and started as a gnome , I dont mind working for faction but i dont fancy doing it on my first character.
