Will have this....
The ability to have different ruleset servers to cover every single aspect of the game. That game will truly cater for all, no appeasing players ..everyone will be happy because everyone will have their perfect game.
Xp rate to suit, death penalty to suit...mostly group content or mostly solo content to suit, long or short travel options to suit, differing graphics 'style's to cater for new and old machines. WoW gfx for those with low specs all the way up to DX10 gfx for the highest specs.
And a special treat for the WoW players will be a server where you have a button on the interface that you click when you've had enough of your current level and want to move onto the next.
Thats the future of MMOG, could all this arguing on the forums be a thing of the past..I wonder what people would say on the forums. I guess they'd probably argue over who is on the most hardcore server :)

I think the next mmog to topple wow is the next one being made by Blizzard. They can monitor their subscription rates and release their next mmorpg at exactly right moment.
There is one huge huge thing they have going for them, they can advertise their next mmorpg in WoW. In terms of advertising, I can't think of anything better than what wow has. They posses a HUGE portion of the market, and are able to advertise their next game directly to them.
If there was an advertisers dream, this would be it. Where else can you advertise to an audience who all have an interest in the type of product you are selling. On top of that, where can you do that AND have them pay YOU to promote your product?
How can you compete with that?

Don't forget about the part where if it was Blizzard, they would write a game that is somewhat fun and appealing and release it in decent shape with few bugs. They would have 2 games with 10 million people. Not because they are Blizzard and WoW, but because they aren't as incompetent as most MMO publishers.

Ever read all the player reviews and gripes in the 1st few months after release. It was a lot like this here. Easy to speak highly of ANYTHING after it's been out over 2.5 years and runs only the most basic of graphics.

i would honestly prefer not to see something in the thread that says that 3 letter word every 6 posts. perhaps that will calm the community a bit.

My bet is that the next massive MMOG will be a Starcraft MMO, because i'm currently seeing a repetition.
-> Remember that "point and click" game that blizzard had in the work in 1997-1998? Thrall was to be the main character of it.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warcraft_Adventures:_Lord_of_the_Clans
They cancelled it because they tought the genre was dead. I'm positive the birth of WoW took place with the death of this game.
-> Closer to us, do you remember Starcraft Ghost? a Splinter Cell-like game in the SC universe - cancelled a year ago without further indications? Well actually it has not been cancelled but "postponed to an unknown date".
-> Fans are expecting a Starcraft RTS but Supreme Commander showed that modern 3D sci-fi RTS can be pretty demanding on the machines and blizzard isnt known to require high end rigs in order to play their games.
-> Also, there is the fact that now that WoW has passed, Blizzard investors expect the company to keep on pumping out high profit games like WoW.
And MMORPG are the most profitable type of video games.
-> There is ofc diablo in the equation - obviously the hack and slash genre is pretty outdated and boring, and a diablo RPG would probably be a hell of a thing (imagine a 40 man raid on diablo =p). But then again, what would sell more: yet another fantasy MMO, or a sci-fi MMO blizzard-style?
My bet is that blizzard is gonna live up to the expectations:
1) Everyone wants Stracraft to come back, but blizzard doesnt want to make a RTS out of it
2) the sci-fi MMO genre still lacks a true Hit
3) There IS a market for a MMO FPRTS (First Person Real Time Strategy), given that a large amount of wow players were avid counter-strike/Warcraft3/diablo 2 players
Therefore, i conclude that:
1) the next Blizzard MMO will be starcraft based
2) it will come out in 2009/2010.
Flame on!

Blizzard has already unofficially announced another MMO is in the works. Some of us have already theorized it will be Starcraft based.

How do you imagine you'll be able to top Warcraft in the future?
When we announce our next MMORPG it’s not going to be another WoW - we’re not a company that tends to tread the same ground. It’ll be something innovative and new that really brings entertainment to another level.
