View Full Version : how is EQ2 pvp?
well vanguard pvp is bs for atleast the next 2 months with broken guards that dont do anything and crappy frame rates when you get within 50000000 meters of another person.
so... how does eq2 pvp compare to WoW pvp? im an ex WoW player and the pvp was decent.. I'm talking about the skill system and such because I wont lie the honor system and battlegrounds are a bore..
are there similar structures such as battlegrounds in EQ2?
ultimately which should i buy for PVP?? EQ2 or VG ?

I hate to say this, but buy Counterstrike for PVP. MMORPG's are all based on LPMUD which is gear dependent. All of these modern MMO's are by design PvE based and its impossible to tack a PvP game ontop of it without ruining PvE. Maybe try Guild Wars?

EQ2 pvp is horrid. The skills are so unbalanced due to Master versions of skills. Then there's the mounts and zoning/bellhopping.
Unless you have an established high level toon with the cash to fund your noobie toons it's rough due to not being able to aford the best spells+faster mounts+ gear...combine this with gankers that hover at the zoneline so that they can 1-2 shot you and then run away before help arrives (or if they pick the wrong player to mess with and start getting owned) it gets very, VERY frustrating.
Heavy fighters have it the worst with no way to stop the ranged players from kiting them around or to keep them from running. Scout classes can track players so they always know where you are and you won't see them till you have sprouted about 10 arrows and are snared..that is if you aren't already dead (if you're a clothie then you ARE dead and if you're a tank then see the last sentence). The the icing on the cake...taunt works in pvp and this is just a *itch. In group fights there is no targeting certain classes due to tanks and pets changing your targeting constantly...or scouts forcing you to detarget them.
I have a 45 necro, 38 SK and some other toons on Venekor and I do not miss it at all.
If you like scout classes then this PVP may be very enjoyable for you due to the things I mentioned above...you will be a PVP god.

Well I come from eq2 pvp so here is my take.
Versus vg well hands down its better since the bugs and fps will kill you here. I can't compare it to WoW since I barely played it.
Here is how it goes by tier. You can level lock there so many twinks abundant.
T1 - none, starts at level 10
T2 - Easiest to do if you lock at 14 and gear up, you don't need everything the best but gear does of course help. You are jumping on new players so their gear is worse than yours and if you get to know the class its easy to feel like a hero in this tier. Personally its not skill based here if your gear/spells are good, gank fest more like. That being said it is good to lock in each tier and get your skills and familiarity up before moving on.
T3-T4 - Alot of twinks here but great tiers to get good. I played a swash here with handcrafted stuff(basic player made) and some upgrades (pvp gear need faction for pvp gear) for awhile and did really well. I know the class well so that gave me an edge. Actually was having a debate on gear vs skill with guildies and showed them my gear on this toon(retired him for awhile) to have a good laugh and win the arguement. In other words, yes gear will always matter, but skill will matter more.
T5 - Starting to get a little more gear dependant but also found it harder to find pvp fights in this tier, hardly any locks is my guess.
T6 - Hell, just race through this tier as every T7 will be ganking you constantly.
T7 - Gear is very important here since raid guilds are fabled out, that being said I was not a raider and did well here. Some fights did leave me looking like I barely touched the other guy so gear will play a factor. Problem in this tier is the hackers/exploiters are really good at it by now, so you run into cheating quite a bit.
My personal favorite is T3 since there is always pvp to be found there. Server dependant as well. Venekor is rp and less intense with a smaller population, where as Nagafen is more intense pvp(immaturity is rampant here too though) but larger population.
It took a good 6 months (some say still in the works) to get the kinks out of the pvp system in eq2 and considering how buggy this game is I highly doubt pvp will be any good until this time next year here.

It does seem that a lot of complaints about PvP are based on 1-v-1 imbalance. To which I have to take the opinion that you should be adventuring in groups on a PvP server.
You can't balance 1-v-1 without making the game stale. For evidence of that, see the competition.
at endgame is there good team vs team pvp?
