Found this on MMORPG.com:

"There are two types of advertising models currently scheduled to featured in Shadowbane. The first is short advertisement videos will be implemented in today's update. These video ads will play on three occasions during game play; when a player logs into Shadowbane, when a player exits the game, and during the respawn period after a character dies."

This has to be the nastiest death penalty I've ever seen.

They are killing themselves if they are putting real advertising ("commercials") in the game. Players will simply refuse to play it. Look what happened to BF2142 (I think it was that one) and their advertising.

They could be a lot more subtle about it...

"Patch notes:
--added Diet Coke Mana Drink, Nike T90 Wizard Shoes, and Daz Dispelling Powder to Dreadfang's loot table."

The advertising is not(was not) bad in BF2142. I have to start by saying I havnt really played it much since VG was released...but prior to VG, BF2141 was my game of choice.

There were ads but, they were not placed in a manner which made them look out of place in the game world. So there is a billboard on the side of the road in a city? Well yeah!

EA didnt start this with BF either, the Need For Speed games had them too...they have billboards and signs all over the place.

In either game I dont really see any distraction or issue with them. Chances are someone watching over your shoulder will notice, but in either game you are usually so concentrated on killing your enemy, or not piling into a guardrail at 120MPH that you barely notice the ads.

I dont really agree with it...not saying that...I am just not sure what you mean by "what happened to BF2142". There were tons of players a month ago and no one that I knew complained about the ad content.

Naw it would be the nastiest death penalty if the advertisements were from a funeral home or a casket manufacturer...
