Am I the only one here who thinks that current robe models(textures aside) are deplorable for a 'third gen' mmo? Even eq2 had the presence of mind to give an open front with a second layer below instead of just 'texturing in' an inside graphic. As things stand, robes look more or less like dresses, across the board.
This is a relatively big problem for me, as it really hurts to have my character always look like some large woman with lots of stubble and wide shoulders.
I really hope a dev will read this and consider what I've just said. Currently, robes just look like stiff dresses and are absolutely uninspired(even textures on them feel bland, my heroic crafted robe kojani robe looks like a t1 kojani robe- and by that I mean it looks like my girlfriends old teadress).
Instead of passing new textures for robes, I honestly think devs should be scrapping the old model and coming up with a more functional/aesthetic robe design.

I totally agree. My main is a 25 necro and luckily I have (so far) been able to avoid Vanguard robes by wearing a tunic.
More creativity please art guys.

/agree. The robes are really ugly and they totally lack any "art". There is about 3 or 4 models with a few different colours. :(

Might be an idea to move this topic to General Discussion...I don't think the devs visit the class specific boards very often? :(

Maybe they get put off by all the horrible looking orange robes? ^_^
It appears that most of our robes are re-coloured variants on two basic patterns. The one with the line down the centre that goes all fuzzy and the front and the dreadful window curtain pattern.
Also we don't have any legs beyond the hemline for some reason, maybe wizards don't need legs?

That particular pose doesn't seem to be implemented.

I do admit some new variations are needed and having seperate layers not just textured in would be nice. However as far as art I am quite satisfied with the variations in color I see in the higher level robes.

Neverwinter Nights (after the Hordes of the Underdark expansion) had good robes. Neverwinter Nights 2 has nice looking robes. Morrowind and Oblivion did robes very well too. Vanguard's robes look awful. I agree that they should scrap the current dress model. And more variety wouldn't hurt either.
WoW's excuse for robes that are actually dresses is the limitations of the engine. What's Vanguard's excuse? Robes should have an open front. Robes should be multi-layered. Robes are not supposed to resemble 19th century pajamas.
And /agree, EQ2's robes are well done.

The robe in that picture is actually decent. It's still not an actual robe, but it's miles ahead of what the robes I've seen in-game look like.

Well it IS a robe.. but what they consider qualian style. Kojan is more like a kimono but there is a bug in game with t4 robes that kojan is more of a vest. Thestrian i dont know yet.
If you all want I can get some robes and do a big SS of all the robe variations I know of from crafting, which should also be in for dropped.

Please! I want to see all the robes!
I am forced to agree that the current robes need assistance... I went ahead and bought a new fancy robe the other night, was quite happy with the stats, etc., only to see that it was the color of vomit.
Perhaps strong urine is closer, hard to say which may be more appropriate.
I told the tailor from whom I had bought it, and he replied "Think of it as Golden"...
Sorry, I can't. YEUCH! What were these guys thinking? My supposed blue tinted elf is tinted the color of .........
And I'm sorry, but eq1 robes before the graphic update may have been better.... Sorry to mention EQ1 here, but the truth is there...
PLEASE, some dev give us SOMETHING to latch onto... I won't quit over it, etc, but at LEAST make the immaculate tier 3 crafted robes look different in almost ANY way... I'll even admit that I'm happy that it at least looks like a robe, etc... but YEUCH!
(This whine brought to you from an EQ1 Enchanter who used to collect robes in EQ, and was thinking of doing it again in Vanguard but who has already basically stopped even thinking about it... Ask Cylus, he KNOWS, or at least should...)
Creasian what robe is that?

I must also agree. Certainly the poor state of robes is not a game-breaking issue, however, we are always looking at the back of our character....it would be nice to have our characters look nice. To look at a realization of the first thing many people think of when they hear the term wizard - Gandalf - he wore a tunic type garment with an outer layer - not a uniform dress.
Hopefully we will look better soon!

I'd love to see robes with dangling sorts, and like metallic inlays, all shiney and stuff...
Dragon patterns, fire, ice, etc... (designs right for what it does/name)
I'd also looovvee to see some chains...
Nothing has captured my caster imagination like Heroes of Might and Magic V, the desert type people had casters that had spell books chained to their side, when they chanted spells off, they held the book with one hand (Or scrolls somtimes) and used a wand to cast off an amazing looking spell.
Ill find a screen shot in a minute.

Defiantly would like to see more loose fitting tunics instead of robes.
Hell, some open chested loose shirts and tight spandex pants with knee high Boots, and the shoulders that aren't symmetrical, with say a plateish look on just one side of the shoulder.
And an eye patch....

I agree, stuff like what i posted above would be awesome.
So far, heavy armor is the best looking, though my Rogue got a badass looking leather tunic, I was very happy.
I'd like to see stuff that isnt symmetrical like you said, it adds so much to the look.
Stuff like half robes would be cool too, Like one "strap" or one half diagonally covered, with a Shoulder pad on one side, and the open half with like a long sleeve and some cool design on it. *dreams*

Agreed.
I'm wearing a level 46 Heroic "Robe", yet it looks _exactly_ the same as a level 1 harvester's tunic, good game Artists!

hmm, the last patch had some robe updates - well at least my lv36(?) Rare Robe looks quite ok now - at least not the "usual robe model":

Pheelon, I admit that I wouldn't be happy wearing that. For one, it still looks a LOT like the robe I am wearing, almost the same color /shudder. Only difference being the supposed straps in the front that look terrible as they are all on the same drawing/graphic level.
Whatever happened to a rich red, or a variation of colors that stand out such as a blue and white combo with some gold edging or design? (Yes, I'm sure SOMEONE has seen a robe with that description in another game...) A nice dark green and gold? If it must be yellow, don't wash it out so that it looks like it's been soiled over and over and now has stains...
Simply put, the colors are bland on quite a few robes, they are all drawn on the same graphic base, making them flat as a pancake in appearance, and the colors need to be redone. And badly.
I already had a good friend go back to WoW and this "All characters look the same" issue was one reason why... He just wasn't impressed, even though he had a level 26 crafter he left behind. What's worse, I tend to agree with the gist of his comment. This could so easily be rectified with things being changed such as this.

I like the new textures on my TK reward robes, but I have to agree that having worn 3 shades of brown for the last 22 or so levels is booooring.
At least brown meshes well with my cloak... then again, everyone at my level has a blue-grey cloak and brown robes...

Bounty Hunter reward robe is the same graphic as higher lvl robes, just a different color. At least my shoulders are a little different, but there is only two models of shoulders I have seen.

Adding colors is nice, but there need to be more robe models too. The "flat" robes can't be that hard to create. They look like a texture map or something.
What do some of the rare/heroic crafted robe look like? I bet some people would buy some crafted one, just to have options of what to wear around town.

Again, something else you can sign me up to! Casters seem to be done last, just before teatime on the day of release in this game.
The items are naff, stats are useless, robes are boring and don't get me started on how utterly camp i look with sandals on. Like H out of steps.

Pristine Starbound Shoulders. It is like the one piece of armor I ever bought of broker so I don't know where they drop.

Yeah, recently got a crafted robe, that looks like a wide cuffed, cloth shirt, rather than a real long robe. ALso the quest in CiS that sends you to River Valley to exlpore has a reward robe that is greyish half robe with wide cuffs.
