Greets, all. I've been taking it easy this morning, reading message boards. My Tennessee Volunteers' offense is just plain bad, and I didn't want to go through my usual routine of reading all about yesterday's game in the newspaper and listening to sports talk radio all morning. So I fired up the computer, checked for any announcements about the beta I'm in. (no, not Vanguard) Nothing really new there, so I wandered over here, agreed with Orlun about autumn, and have basically blown off the last 2 hours or so reading this site and some of the more out-of-the-way portions of the OVF.

It was while I was over there, that I go into the player stories forum, and now, dammit, I'm seriously nostalgic. Everquest was really well-designed for your charcter to be somebody. You were in the same areas with the same people for weeks at a time. You got to know people and you composed great stories together as you accomplished things, or did goofy things. (Your corpse is WHERE?) People have some stories over there, that while fun in their own right, are really powerful because they take me back to things I did, and better friends than I've ever had in any other game.

All of which leaves me here, pining for Vanguard, and hoping it will once again create that great environment where people can say, "remember the time when we..."

Anyone got any old web sites that are still sitting around with obsolete EQ content? Here's one: www.poplarcreek.net/eq
It's my old guild's web site, untouched by the passage of time, or the release of Luclin. Some of the text isn't wrapping right, but it's still readable. The photo gallerie is probably of most interest.

/em wanders off to drink scotch and send "I love you, man" emails to all his old guildies.
