View Full Version : New Girl and the Psionicist

First and foremost, hi. :) I'm new to Silky Venom, but not new to the MMO. I'm very excited about an MMO coming out that I can play for more than a year, have a real challenge without the tedium. So I've been looking into and researching all I can about Vanguard.
So does anyone know much about the Psionicist yet? I've read that they'll be a DPS class with minor buffing and that leveling up depends on where you are in the world. Does anyone know anything else about them? Or maybe what races can play them?

sadly, our FAQ entry on Psionicist (http://www.silkyvenom.com/forums/faq.php?faq=faq_world_setting_theme#faq_3_24) is somewhat... underwhelming. Hopefully a bit of sauce about them will be released soon.

Oh *pout*, nothing at all! Hopefully, like you said, that will change.

Our Wiki does have some sauce though. Try here

Orlun you sly devil, beat me to it!
But yeah, the info is shortcoming on the classes, but thats ok, I'd rather be suprised when I get my hands on them, the learning curb is half the fun, I dread remembering learning the ropes of my bard when I was a wee lad in EQ!
Welcome though, and from my experiences playing one at E3, the Psi was quite a hoot! Especially when you got him in some group action

The second announced arcane caster class is the Psionicist. Sigil has unveiled more information about the Psionicist than about any other class. The psionicist will be available on Qalia and Kojan, but will not be available to players who begin the game on Thestra.
The Psionicist relies on the power of his mind to deal damage to his enemies and buff his allies. Those buffs will include an enhancement to combat awareness and a diamond-like skin covering. The number and quality of buffs a psionicist can provide will be limited by his concentration; each buff requires a constant portion of the psionicist's concentration pool for the duration of the buff. In other words, if the Psionicist has 100 base concentration and a buff takes 5 concentration, the Psionicist's concentration will be reduced to 95 for as long as the buff remains active. Psionicists will be able to increase their concentration with items (Sigil has specifically described a staff that would enhance concentration).
The Psionicist will also boast a crowd control ability, "mind bar." Using this skill, the Psionicist can freeze an enemy in place and force him to devote all of his attention on engaging the Psionicist in a battle of the minds - but the Psionicist can only do so at the cost of being similarly locked down.
To advance, the Psionicist must do more than just visit trainers. Objects called gestalts are scattered throughout the world; to unlock or upgrade some powers, the Pionicist must travel to these gestalts. The evolution of the Psionicist is thus in part dependent upon which areas of the game he has visited.
:o Forgot we have some info in the Vanguide too.
Looks like I need to so more cross referencing this weekend. :o

See, each game I'm playing something different. I've spent the past year on WoW playing a priest and that was awesome. But I'm tired of being in the back and I'd like to hurt the mob now and again (I know priests could, but still). And that just sounds fun (guiltily, I admit, I love playing a psion in D&D and maybe that's where my love is coming from).
So the psionist sounds pretty cool, but game play will tell all.

The Psionicist sounds like an incredibly fun class.
Talisker commented quite a while ago that the Psionicist would be one of those classes that is easy to play but difficult to play WELL. I see this as promising, and he said that it would be a very very fun class.
The guys at Sigil sem to love it, I think we will too.

Yeah, I kinda get that feeling. In some way, it kind of reminds me of the WoW warlock in the multitude of things it can do. However it's a bit more defined than the Warlock.
I am hoping it's not like the Warlock because I sucked at it. WoW gave me some good gaming experience, so hopefully I can play the Psionist well. But who knows -- knowing me, it won't be the class I end up sticking with.
