I was messing around Saturday night with my telescope looking at the near full moon. I don't have a camara adaptor but I got to thinking...

"What if I held my cheap digital camera up to the eyepiece"?

Well, It worked... sorta.

I had to hold it a half inch above the eyepiece lens and it took a half dozen pictures to get one that wasn't a partial or blurry but I think it turned out pretty good. I might have to build a rigid mount and try it again some day.

:p

Wow! That's really cool!

You should try to get one of Mars. It's bigger in the sky right now than it will be again for 12 years.

Should be somewhat near the eastern horizon shortly after sundown.

Very nice picture!

Our moon's really been in the wars, hasn't it! Sheesh! Nasa should leave the poor thing alone!

The blackened side on the left is because I was tilting the camera ever so slightly. If I had a rigid mount, the whole moon would have been visible. :(

Nice! That turned out far better than I would have expected.

A click of genius, Orlun. Wonderful picture, and it makes us all seem sort of...bound together...very strange feeling. You know when people look up at the stars and feel insignificant sometimes? Well, this had the opposite effect on me. Made me feel part of everything.

Okay, it's late, I had the worst technical day of my life, and it cheered me up, okay? :p
