Well we have to pay far more in Europe for the same stuff, but quite tempted at getting a flatscreen monitor.
2405FPW normally £942.35 ($1652), now £603 ($1057)
2005FPW normally £507 ($889), now £356 ($624)
Looked at the prices on the US site, and it's annoying that our 30% discounts are comparable to US regular undiscounted prices.

In the UK we do have 17.5% VAT on electronics, but mostly its just good old fashioned price gouging.

I thought at first the thread was titled "Glipped by Dell" and I was very, very confused. The VAT makes computer shopping a lot less fun. :(

Dell UK is a separate company, so they have their own separate P and L. Because ot that, they have their own separate cost structure, and there are tarriffs and such that get built in to product prices in the UK that aren't applicable in the US.
The vast majority of the extra cost IS taxes in the UK (becuase the taxes are not on the corporations, as some would have you believe, but on the people that buy from them, as they are simply passed along,) with corporate income taxes being so high (some would call them confiscatory,) and all of the separate import and excise taxes. All of that gets built into the price, then the EU tops it off with the VAT. Ahhh the good old-fashioned double-dip! VAT on your excise and tarriffs!
But you do get some "free" services from the government, right?

The VAT is on everything that isn't a necessity, of course it sucks when you consider widescreen flat panels a necessity. The prices do include the sales tax (VAT) and shipping.
Coupons barely exist here.

The main problems are:
- The lack of coupons: I have never seen one, neither online nor physically, and I do a lot of buying for a lot of people.
- The tax the EU has set on devices with digital video inputs: Plasma TVs, LCD, etc. with a DVI or HDMI input.
