View Full Version : The Mezzer Class?

From the class list, I'm not noticing any class that is all about crowd control, like EQ's Enchanter was. The only one I have notice that has definate CC is the Psionist. However the only spell they have is that mind meld thing, or whatever's it called. It puts the psionist out of commission, which, of course, isn't the best class for CC, then. ;)
So do we know? Or has the class not been announced yet? If it has, which one will be more about CC? Or will it be like WoW where a bunch of classes have CC abilities?

Sigil is not keen on making CC as powerful as it's been in other games - they seem to want players to actually have to fight the mobs, and not take them out one at a time. So it looks like the Psionicist will be the closest thing to a mezzer class. There are a few posts on the OVF where devs talk about this, they might be linked in the FAQ here but I haven't checked.

Yeah, as Havelock said I'm assuming we'll see the most CC through the Psionicist. They're supposed to have that nifty mind-lock ability that freezes a creature in place.
As you might've noticed, recent games have been doing away with crowd control. I mean, it's still there to a degree, but no where near as much as EQ. Enchanters undoubtedly owned, but in games like WoW or SWG, you don't see that. WoW you had those who could shackle and mind control (priests) and those who could sheep (mage.) These were situational, though, so you wouldn't use them extremely often (unless you fought many humanoids/undead.) I think it's sorta good and sorta bad that you have less crowd control.
Good in the sense that you fight more at once and it can require more skill and bad in the sense that a lot of people enjoyed the role of weakening mobs to a pulp and disabling them from the battle entirely. I guess we will see that phased out over the next few games. Then again, who knows.
