Kalyper

Hello V-fans! I registered with these forums a few days ago but I never actually introduced myself, for those that are interested. My name is Lenny in real life but in the virtual world I mostly go by the name of Kalyper. I have been using that name since the Quake 1 days. I use it mostly for FPS games. It's a gay name, I know, but I haven't seen any others use it so I stuck with it. :P So if you ever see a "Kalyper" somewhere, it may be me. But anyways, I'm 25 years old and have been playing games since I was very young. People say I'm a cool guy, int he gaming world that is. I don't have much of a social life other than work and close friends and family. In other words, I don't go to clubs, the beach, parties, shows, etc... Though I occasionally go to the theme parks in Orlando. My mother tells me she woke up in the middle of the night when I was 3 and found me playing Lode Runner on the Commodore 64. She was amazed that I loaded the game up myself and figured it was just from watching others do it. I'm still amazed and don't remember it at all. But anyone who has had experience with the Commodore knows that it breaks down easily. So I didn't actually start playing games regularly til I was about 11 when I got my first NES. Got my first PC at 16. Ohh the good ol days of gaming. I could talk all day about games in that era. And now here we are, in a new generation of gaming that just keeps expanding rapdily with new technology. The internet has grown so incredibly large in just the past decade, that now it's just uncommon to be without it. The online gaming industry has grown so big as well, that it still impresses me when it was just a few years ago that the communities were quite small. Fan sites like IGN were just that, fan sites. 100% free and small.
But anyways, back to who I am. For MMORPG's I go by Tyrazlee or a few other names, depending on the class I play. I played a few of the old AD&D P&P games with my buddies in my teens. And before Everquest, I found some 256 color PC games that were actually multiplayer. Boy did I have a blast with those. I was on a 56k back then (stole that modem from Computer City, don't ask)and kept lagging bad and LDing. it was fun and all but I really enjoying Tomb Raider, the Xwing and Tie Fighter titles, Dark Forces, etc... Then in 1999, I got tired of playing Halflife TFC and I decided to go ahead and try this new game I read about in PC Gamer called Everquest. By this time I had my own job, and my own debit card so paying for it was no problem AND I had my own cable internet. I logged on for the first time, and chose the Vallon Zek server, because PvP-Teams sounded really cool. I made a Human Paladin and started off in Freeport. At first, I didn't know what the hell to do. But there I was, staring at my screen which had a UI that covered up most of the screen and my view was jsut a tiny little window in the top center. And I was staring at Boomba with about 10 dead half elf corpses at his feet. I got a kick out of it right away. So I finally figured out how to move around and found my way outside the city gates, since they weren't that far at all. I saw a bunch of large rats, I clicked one then clicked the attack button and I fell in love with the game. That was the start of my sour addiction to Evercrack.
I played it for 4 years before quitting. I was in a pretty uber guild when I left. A year later I returned and played for another year, and quit for the last time, after OoW expansion was out. In the times tthat I had quit EQ, I had tried SWG, FFXI, and CoH. I was in beta for SWG and I played that game for about 6 months. I played FFXI for about 4 months. That was a fun game and I still log on it lately for fun. I also played CoH. That game had a fantastic character creation and I kept rerolling toons because it was so fun. But the content in the game was poor and I really really missed EQ1 and tahts when I returned to it. After OoW was out for a bit in EQ1, I got into beta for EQ2 and thats when I decided to quit EQ1 for good. EQ2 beta was so damn impressive and I was having a great time with it. Especially with all the communication I had with the devs, made me feel like I was really helping em out. Shortly after I got into WoW open beta. That game was good too, but just wasn't my style of an MMORPG. It was way too easy. EQ2 launched and it didn't take me long to realize how easy that game was too. Not as easy as WoW, but definitely not as challenging as EQ1 in its early years.
Currently I still play EQ2, mostly because I enjoy my guild. If it wasn't for them, I would've quit the game long ago. I even participated in the beta for DoF expansion. I worked alot with the devs on the group/raid content, but as far as the combat revamp went, they just didn't seem to listen to all the issues people brought up in the forums and such. But in all truth, I don't play the game as much lately, the game is not what it was in the original beta. SOE really screwed it up. They just seem to care about making every newbie happy and dumb the game down more with every patch. But like I said, I still log into FFXI now and then. And sometimes play Americas Army, Battlefield 2, and even some free cheeso game called Gunbound. But lately most of my time has been reading the Vanguard forums on all these different sites.
So there have it. I hope you enjoyed the read, since I'm not a very good writer heh. I am now addicted to a game that isn't even released yet. HAHA I'm looking forward to Vanguard so much! And I am also looking forward to being a part of the hardcore Silky Venom one day ;)
See ya around!
