Surprisingly, as of late I've been hearing that EQ2 is actually doing quite well of itself. It's latest Expansion has given people back that 'old EQ feeling' and gameplay styles that many had hoped for in the beginning of it's conception.
Now, that 2nd website link has it down pretty well...
I love the game as it is now. But that won’t be enough. Kunark rewrote EQ1, and it made EQ1 great. Kunark has to do the same for EQ2. By bringing it out so early, SOE must believe they have something that will make EQ2 absolutely new.

I've become interested in EQ2 recently. Rumors that the game has gotten more EQ-like have intrigued me. I never played the original EQ, but, if the early Vanguard beta was similar, I expect I will be pleased.

If I weren't playing Vanguard (and well invested enough to continue), I'd be playing EQ2. It was my first real MMO, and it's only gotten better since I last played (about a year ago).

The problem with eq2 is everything is zoned so be prepared for lots of long load times. And everything is an "island" nothing really seems connected to each other. Also you get the same armor/robe appearances from level 1 to 60. Robes in partcular are very bad its all the same model, and its pretty generic and ugly to look at.

THe problem I had with EQ2 is that I felt lost, I spent most of my time looking on websites to find out how to do a quest rather then doing it in game.

I’ve been thinking of going back to EQ2 myself. The only thing that’s stopping me is that I deleted my old toon so I’d be starting from scratch, and I think by this stage all the low level zones would be deserted with no one to group with.:(

Same here. Hell, back in it's day, I was the 2nd highest ranked monk on my server, Nektulos (based by level), though I played the game because I was in such an awesome guild that was usually on the front of exploring new zones that no one has gone into yet (Zones like Cazic and Permafrost were all but empty most of the time for us), hell, we were one of the first groups to ever figured out the Deathfist Citadel instance run. Hella fun, learning about all the named, events and such that went on in that instance. Failed it a good 5-8 times before learning how to beat it.
Also, we used to always get on vent and just have *fun*. We'd joke around and really, they were an AWESOME bunch of folks. Sighs. I miss them now.
If anyone remembers Dojo from EQ2 in Nektulos, drop me a line.
Ok, this is highly disturbing. My character is gone. It's not listed in the eq2players database.

This post made me laugh so gard long load time its about 2-5 seconds to zone and maybe 10 to zone a raid in and my pc isnt anything special
as for armor and robe looks how long since you played there are some great class percific designs in game now wth very distinctive looks and designe the best being some of the hats the look and effects on my fuys class had are fantastic
EQ2 has come a long way the last year iy us evolving into a great game apart from crafting which they screwed up with bug time padering the the hardcore raiders whining about how good it was and raid loot wasnt a good enough inprovment now it is seen as a joke if in the higher lvls you wear cradted armor even the mastercrafted armor is crap

i recently started lvling a assasin and so far had veru little trouble finding groups it is easy to solo to the 20s and can always get a group for RoV or crushbone keep in GF only reason i did the new roon was getting board waiting to find a group in VG
it has also been fun as a lot of zones have been revamped of late DFV the latest to get a revamp with new crafting quests in there in recent times Sol Eye the best zone in game got a face lift as well
It has made it fun for somone like who has played it since fay one and was in beta to go back again
I really hope VG can become as good polish wise a EQ"

Just takes time, i played eq2 prior to CU1....i was a defiler...i had fun, got to 46, finished all but 3 of teh fable quests, was working on the Screaming mace when i stopped playing, DoR xpac wasnt good for me so i moved on.
Did they wipe old characters that wasn't playing after so long or something? This is making me worry. I had a level 46 or 47 monk named Dojo in Nekulos, and it's not there anymore. o.O
PHEW! Found him. Hidden lil buggah. Guess they take him out of the search field after being inactive for so long.

I had heard about the new expansion coming out, but havent looked up any info yet. I played EQ2 from the day the server went up, and was actually #6 to actually log into Permafrost opening day (I know ye hah, but hey I was impressed) . I left behind two raid 70's, a necro and a monk, and erased 4 toons to drop to 6 when I dropped Station Access, leaving only the 40+ advents and the 70 tradeskillers.
I left there for here for one reason: boredom. After you have played every class (both before and after combat revamps) to 30ish, leveled to 70 twice (almost 4 times, 2 i left where well into the 60's) , and raided everything available up to Unrest..whats left to do? I was spending days very well equipped and name farming..
Now I know a lot of people would flame me, saying stuff like make an alt etc etc, but I had done all that. There literally is no place on Norrath I havent been.
EQ, when I started playing was just before PoP, travel was long, and the game was HUGE from the expansions that where already out. PoP merely opened yet more. There was so much to do, so many places to go, that it took up until just after GoD for me to see MOST of it. And there where still many places I hadnt seen.
Heres hoping this sparks the opening of a LOT more landmass, with a LOT more content ala EoF x4 . EQ2 needs it, its players deserve it, and its future requires it.

Now you're the one making me laugh. You get the same robe model from level 1-60. only the colors and textures change. The only class specific designs in the game ive seen are the class hats and the last time I looked, they weren't even done for all of the classes.

nope but the merged that sever al,sot 2 years ago when DoF came out to make room for PvP servers so you might have had a name change

meh, started up EQ2 again after the terrible VG experiance. 10 of us in total left Vg and set up a little guild on Splitpaw.
Having a blast and i can run the game on extreme quaility with very little hitching solo and drop it down to quality in grp's.
I would recomend anyone to either try it out or go back and start up. seems active enough in the newbie zones and there are plenty of grps hittig the lower end isntances/dungeons.
Nice and polished game now.

That’s awesome news. I am going to be starting back on the splitpaw to. I was a little discouraged when I heard rumours that all the mid to low level zones were deserted. I was even more discouraged when I could not find a single copy of EOF in any shop (the only EQ2 expansion I don’t have). However the reports I am reading here seem quite optimistic, I am looking forward to starting back.:)

SOE did a really good job of the last EQ2 expansion, EoF. If they can 'do an EoF' with Kunark 2.0, I'm so there. Besides the fact that EoF was just a solid product they actually devoted a lot of development time to (and it shows) it also played on people's fondness for nostalgia. Nobody gives a crap about Wayfarers, or Mata Muram, or unheard of dragons. They just want to see Crushbone and The Faydark again.
As much as I berated EQ2 on other boards when it launched, SOE has really got their act together now. Kunark was my favorite expansion in EQ1.. even if Kunark 2.0 sucks, I'll probably resub just for nostalgia's sake. And nostalgia is SOE's biggest weapon right now. They have a back catalogue of cool shit people liked, they should be using it. I just hope they don't rush it.
If they can get the developers who worked on The Estate of Unrest to design the new zone, it will be something to experience. It was a well thought out dungeon, that was a lot of fun.

Isn't Unrest already in there? I thought I saw some shots of some tweaks to it they did.
It was there, but it was only opened up a couple of weeks ago as an instance. Lots of praise for the zone design and play.

Funny how perceptions differ so much.
I left EQ2 to play VG. The new expansion sucks imo. It's all low level content so there was nothing to do at cap. There wasn't even an epic quest this expansion and they're just putting one in now... in pieces. WTF is up with that!
Most of the VG players I know came from EQ2. So I guess EQ2 is getting new players but lost a lot of it's long time supporters.

there is one more the name escapes me that takes 20 mins to do and oblisk of blight again a 30 min zone
the past couple of weeks i have seen a lot of long time players leave EQ2 as they are boared with it the last expanstion was good but there was not rnough for high end players exept the new raid zonesand some are so hard like EH that only hardcore raid guilds even bother going there
i am having fun lvling a new alt in the new zones but not all players what to go through it all again
Most seem to be taking a break untill AoC comes out

Nope we are guild with branches in EQ EQ2 SWG WoW and AO i am guild leader of the EQ2 branch
At least 100 members are going to AoC none have said they are going to warhammer that i know of
of the 19 that came to VG only 2 of us left now
UP till the easter break EQ2 seemed to be ok but i have changed that view
With SoE offering free server transfer in the near future for one week i see some server merges in the way for the PvE servers as well as the already planned PvP eu server merges
i think a lot of people are the same as me and boared of fantasy MMORPGs but thats just MHO and as i said before i think the main reason i am not enjoying VG as much as i thought i would
I agree with you Nuandy, too much high fantasy. I'm following Tabula Rassa, it looks promising and it's not fantasy.

Lack of high level content was why I quit EQ2 at the end of January. I had been playing from launch, so yes, I was a long time supporter they lost.
Still, Eq2's loss was VG's gain, for now at least:D

EQ2 needs to fix the itemization, bad. My brigand sets the filters to
type: chain
slot: Legs
level:60-70
Class:Brigand
Rarity:Legendary
guess how many results I get?
1
and it's 17plat.
and if they do what the 2nd link says, they have me sold on all access.

Ummm...He said "For now at least". That implies to me that he is currently leveling up and if he gets to 50 and there is no content he will move on...
Anything to bash VG though eh Skazz?

Yeah, I have to admit i almost went back to EQ2, but I'm giving Sigil time to implement those things.
i think after 2.5 years almost , I was pretty done with EQ2 anyway. I had raided everything, made 1500plat, had alts etc, so I think there wasn't really much left to do.
If VG does fail to deliver, I would most likely go on to a new MMO rather than go backwards, AoC looks pretty impressive to me :D
Now, if SOE opened up a 'classic' pre-CU SWG that would be a different story :)

I reactivated my EQ2 account and went through unrest. Meh, what's the big deal. It's a zone just a bit longer then the other ones.
No epic quest is still huge in my eyes. They're working on fixing itemization now and a lot of the avatar loot is better then instanced stuff. Hum, we'll see if they get the next expansion right because this one is still fubar.
There still isn't enough raid content. I'm raiding casually now 4 nights a week for 3-4 hours a night and we clear everything save EH. In EH we still need to clear a couple of mobs. I like raiding in EQ2 though so I'm doing that until raid content is released in VG but overall it's just not a long term game for me. I'm just waiting until something else is released.
The game is also nothing like EQ1. Lots of people like it better now though because there's more solo content and less group content. They really dumbed down the content since release.
Right now I'm looking forward to AoC.
Moonchyld
04-20-2007, 05:15 PM
Well, I think there's enough content to raid 7 nights a weeks cause we do. Some of these nights are like Lyceam then Labs in the same night. T6 stuff like PoS and DMP are on Fridays when we can't pull in 24. If you only focused on EoF raiding I imagine there's like 4 nights worths. There IS a lot of raid content though but you have to find people that are interested in raiding everything they can.
I think EQ2 is a solid game but haven't been playing much of it lately.
