So, I have an older 1x burner in my Powerbook, so I figured when I built my PC that I'd just put a reader in. Anyways, I've started burning shows off of tivo to disc and moving the 800 meg mpegs across my wireless network to burn on the powerbook is getting old (as is the 1x drive) and I'm thinking about dropping a burner in the PC.
But they all seem pretty much the same. Anyone have suggestions or an idea where I can find some decent reviews?

DVD Burners can read, burn, and copy CD's faster then a normal CD drive, and DVD burners can also read, burn, and copy DVD's. DVD burners are your friend. You can usualy find DVD Burners for around $45, i myself use a NEC DVD Burner, works extremely well and i love it. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827152047
$38, over 580 reviews, stable and reads almost anything.
Newegg.com has alot of reviws from people, if your not comfortable with buying from newegg, look at the reviews, and buy it from somewhere else.
Good luck~

Finding reviews of DVD burners that are useful is extremely hard. There are a few comparisons here and there on the normal sites I suggest for everything... like
http://www.anandtech.com
http://www.extremetech.com
The problem is that the drives change very fast, and nobody really uses the same tests.
I decided to go with a brand I generally trust, and get a drive that had plenty-o-speed, as well as great reviews from customers around the web.
I got the same one Merkeon has... only I got the retail so I'd get the software with it. I've been extremely happy with it so far. Nice drive.

I use dual nec's in my rig. The burner linked above is a good one. The main reason nec is my burner of choice is because there is a wide variety of hacked firmwares available. I can pick and choose what media I want to use.. if my current firmware doesn't support the format, I just dl the one I need.
