View Full Version : Farm Teams and Guild Alliances

I have a proposal for the leaders of SV, I understand that you will be a hardcore raiding guild. I, and many others cannot make the commitment to raid or even play 6 dyas a week. But we would like to be a part of the fantastic community you are creating.
In Major League Baseball, a club would have one or two teams that they own and bring players from to join the "Bigs". I suspect that SV will be one of the premiere guilds on whatever server they chose, and could benefit from a system such as this.
If, as I suspect, V:SOH has a robust guild management funtion that allows seperate guilds to enter into an alliance, this would be a great help for this system.
I see it working kinda like this: Your farm team (call it Sticky Venom :p ), is made up of those people who can't make a time commitment to Silky but can be 'called up' to fill out a raid or group. Members can move between guilds without losing their affiliation. People who go through a life change and find their time constricted or freed up will be able to stay within the Venom family.
I am sure there are many people who would like to belong to a group of guilds like this, with an elite guild leading the alliance and several 'feeder' guilds.
I would be willing to help out any way I can with this idea.If anyone is interested, send me a PM.

I wouldnt be terribly opposed to something like this :)
However it really comes down to holding the "farm guilds" (you scared me with a name like that btw :p) to a set of rigid requirements that the main guild itself holds. Whereas obviously you wont be raiding, besides perhaps content that the main guild has moved past.
Also, members would have to understand that not everyone is going to come from the farm guilds most likely.
Its an interesting concept though for sure, and I'd like to see what sigil brings to the table as far as guild management goes :)
Oloh, however, is the man with the plan for this guild :)

Well perhaps a simpler way to do things would simply be to have a separate guild, with strong ties between the two guilds.
I also cannot commit to being a super-duper power player like Oloh, but want that nice community-feel guild. If some of us from the same dhow were to create a guild then it might work out well. Through strong ties to Silky Venom we would still be able to hang around with them when they aren't off being uber. Sigil has, I believe, has hinted at multi-guild towns being common, and so if Silky Venom would allow us we could all still hang out for the non-hardcore stuff.
I am sure that somewhat casual players like myself can make their way in the world in fields such as crafting and diplomacy. I'm sure Silky Venom wouldn't be opposed to trading alliances and other such uses of ties between different groups of players.
Whichever way the idea takes Oloh, I will be wanting a guild when Vanguard goes live, and I cannot think of a better group of adventurers to play with than the non-powerplayers of Silky Venom. :)

I could see something like this working. But again holding the guild accountable to the same structure as SV is important. I could see Guilds as these help in ways as building towns and the like. I'm not in SV Yet :D but id vote to support an idea such as this.

Very true. However I think most people know what kind of player they are. For myself, I know that I will never be a hardcore Vanguardian but casual fits my lifestyle. Those that are hardcore can apply to SV and those that just want the community that has grown here can join Silky Antivenom http://www.silkyvenom.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1668&postcount=4
Well gotta see what Oloh says. If he ever takes a break from playing :p

I'm sure Silky Venom won't be a stand-alone alliance with sub guilds. Just like any other great guild, it will belong to a great alliance, most likely. Just a thought.
Anyways, I'm planning on building my own site, for people with more reasonable playtimes (2-8 hours a day, 4-7 days a week). My guild will primarily focus on creating, controlling, maintaining, and improving a player built city. Not saying Sticky Venom won't be an awesome (and possible the best) guild, but it won't be the only great one. :)

You could always join the Copper Alliance, an inter-game, inter-guild alliance (Started by me!). We so far, only have one guild, a WoW guild by the name of Shadowhammers, I am actually the co-leader of that one... Just check this (http://www.geocities.com/thecopperalliance/) out! :)
I'm, BTW, looking to join a Vanguard guild currently! :D

Well here is the thing guys. I want to be honest with you. I am not much into formalities. The bottom line is that we will try and attract the right types of players into the guild proper, and will not generally work from an "alliance" structure.
We also wont be actively supporting any smaller or casual guilds on any sort of formal basis. It just really isnt in the plan.
The above being said, it doesn't mean that we will ignore request to raid with us or to help out those in need or whatever. I am not trying to be a hardass or anything, but the guilds focus is to kill the hardest stuff first on a consistant basis. Anything else is just secondary.
So, if you want to make a guild on the same server, and you guys are cool and we hang out in groups or for certain raids, then that is ok, and hell, you we would probably even help hosting your guild forums and the like, but when push comes to shove, it just wont be a priority to have a "farm guild" or a guild alliance for crafting, diplomacy, etc.
We expect at least some of our members to be top level at everything, crafting included.
So I hope that helps. Not against the idea, but it would just have to happen really and not be anything formal or planned. For the most part, I believe that normal play forces will sort this type of thing out.

Not a problem Oloh. I am aware of several people that like the community they have found here and would like to recreate that feeling in a family/casual type guild. If you have no objections, I'd like to use your boards to recruit and form that type of guild.
So as I see it, this type of guild needs atm:
A: A name (Sticky Venom and Silky Panties has been suggested; any thoughts :p )
B: A guild leader
Anyone who has experience with this type of thing, please reply or shoot me a PM.
As things get closer to release we can decide whether or not to follow SV on the server they choose.

This caught my since it was similar to something I'd been pondering. I'll almost certainly end up being a rather time-limited crafter type (20+ hours/week) but I still might want to tag along on a deep dungeon dive for epic crafting on a weekend.
I saw Olah's post so done deal ...
For those who might still be thinking about 2 other guilds doing this kind of thing. For control purposes why not just have the farm guild be controlled by alts of the primary guild ... even if their level one they'd still retain kick/promote type controls.
It's definitely a time sink (want to delegate authority) but you'd still maintain control ...

One of the guilds I was in in EQ had a feeder guild created, ostensibly to boost the raiding ability of the main guild. All the officers/leader in the main guild had alts in equivalent spots in the feeder guild, and all alts of those in the main guild were required to be in the feeder guild.
It sounded good on paper, but it quickly degenerated into mains spending more time playing alts in the feeder guild, then improving their main characters.
If a guild develops/maintains a reputation as being the biggest, best, fairest, etc, no formal recruitment should be required. (though exceptional candidates should definitely be harassed daily to join!)
