View Full Version : Does a Disciple stand a chance in PVP?

I used to have a lot of fun PVP'ing with my disciple at around level 8 or so, but I’m now level 17 and I don’t seem to stand a chance anymore.

Yesterday, a level 18 druid attacked me. He was in some kind of animal form and moving much faster than me while spamming some nuke that took most of my health away per hit. I don't mind the powerful nuke too much, but more the fact that I just couldn’t catch up with him to get a single hit in.

A few days ago a level 12 sorcerer attacked me. He slowed me down and hit me with all he got (which isn't much at lvl 12). Then when I finally caught up with him he went invis and that was it. I continued going about my own business, but 10sec later he did the exact same thing again. After repeating this 4 times I had no choice but leave without having been able to hit him even once.

I don't mind losing in PVP and I don't mind some classes being stronger than others, but not being able to get a single kick in just isn’t fun.

So what am I doing wrong? How do you Disciples PVP?

You will have a hard time against any kiters..

btw.. Druids are sickly overpowerd so dont even bother.. No class wins there..

Speed, Ranged DPS, Levitation, Invis, See Invis, Snare.

If you have 2 or 3 of these, your good, if you dont, your sol.

Figure out the I win classes yourself.

If somebody is giving you trouble like that, do a /shout and try to get a See Invis, and go get a See Invis item ASAP (think you can get one at 28 from CIS...but I don't remember what item it was or if it was an armor piece that is restricted to certain classes). And yes, any class that can snare you will have a trump card on you, but if you group with a class that has any of the things Lung mentioned, you'll negate the advantage of the other guy and be on a more level playing field. The game is "balanced" (heh) around group PVP and if for instance you had a DRK in your group (makes sense for a tank + healer duo), he could easily snare the sorc, port behind and beat on him while you kept both of your HPs topped off. Throw in a psion that could mez and counterspell the sorc to interrupt his casts and cast See Invis on everybody and the sorc is SOL until he gets more people in HIS group to balance it out. A 16 sorc was ganking in Martok the other night and my 11 DRK (first character from launch, been sitting dormant and half naked as my Kojan Exchange House mule) got a lucky WoD crit for 566 and nearly 1-shot him :p

PVP at this point really is who can get more people in their group and who can put together the best team to balance out strengths and weaknesses. Then again, there's nothing stopping 2-3 sorcs teaming up to instakill each member of a group one at a time...

Don't worry: It's not your fault. It's just that disciples have no form of root/snare, while most classes do, so everything can and will run away from you if it starts losing.

Your playing on a PvP Server on a class that only works in PvE, thats what your doing wrong.

As a lvl 50 disciple, i PvP by quitting the game.

I tell you this now, if you want to have fun in pvp, roll a ... druid, sorc, dread knight, or any other class that has multiple escapes to get away and also insane burst dps. Ranged DPS right now is also at a advantage. Dread knights i only bring in because they have the insta teleport behind ability + 15 min cooldown good burst dps spell.

Also, even with the 50% nerf in dps, at lvl 50 its really hard to get heals off alot of the time (impossible to get off endurance heals which is what our class is based off of, and since we can only get jin from fighting, jin heals also worthless) since burst dps in this game can be insane just from a single character.

Your joking right? Go get throwing stars because the + damage from them doesnt even work and crude shurikens do the same damage as the best shurikens in the game. Lvl 50 disciple with near 400 dex and my shurikens do 200-300 in pvp. Not gonna do much when everyone has 3000+ hp and your getting hit for 1k+ each hit.

yes but its better standing there holding your wang....

and you force them to heal up a bit and to get out of range... also.. use up there mana a little bit... its what i did to a a few casters... they dont take damage too well... so its like a little fly that dont stop pestering... after awhile they dont like it no more and just run away

Okay.. let me put this in better perspective.

The dps is so great at lvl 50, if its a 1v1 against a dps class like a druid or a sorc thats ranged, if i dont constantly heal myself, i will die if i havnt allready due to burst dps. There is NO time to throw shurikens.

well all i can say to you then is... stand there and do nothing then....

you have your way... i have mine... if you dont like my advice then dont listen to it...

i am offering to somebody who is NOT 50...

so in essence i am not talking to you... you obviously dont like the idea... at least im telling him something then just stand there and heal yourself...

i dont need perspective i can draw my own picture thank you....

40+ PVP for a Disciple is a joke. You can how ever piss people off fairly well especially casters. You still cant kill them the majority of the time, but you can annoy the hell out of them.

If you have Jin pop them with Mindless Clutch and try hit them with Essence Thief. This wont kill them by any streach, but it drops them about 30-40 % on mana making them run out really fast. Basically you heal yourself with their mana and laugh. With a 2 min duration it actually messes them up for a bit.

Shuriken are great as long as they are stupid enough to stand in front of you, but if they go around behind you you’re SOL there. Best combo I have been able to come up with is drain their mana and try and land a few good hits to get jin up. If you can actually close with them then pop a fast healing combo. You do a bit of damage to them and heal yourself at the same time. If you are attacked while fighting a mob or two tag them with BRH hit them a few times then FD and watch the mob become your new best friend ;)

If attacked by a tank you can always feign > Stun heal up and then chose to fight or get out of dodge. Me depending on the guild I might bring back 4-5 friends to have a “talk” with them :)

Over all the Disc is simply out gunned and lacks a lot of the utility needed to be an effective class in PVP. In group PVP you can help a lot more than in solo, but still you are kind of riding on the shirt tails of the other group members.

No they dont stand a chance in solo pvp. Too many kiting classes..... I have never had any issue past 30 with a disc.

True, but if VG doesn't create places that attract organized pvp teams (structures to be conquered for example) then you'll have to either guild v guild schedule - grief teams that are grouped for pve - which is ghey and lessens the competition by far - or just hit and miss with a team hoping to get the opposing force to make their own if you kill enough crafters for say 1 hour.

If there's no objective to some conflict, however, then why should I get me and 5 other 50s from my guild to defend some place if I don't even know why, who or what is going on - and for how long? If I knew we were stopping folks from taking a resource, or blowing up a town, then sure - we are on our way, especially if we get skill points or such from the fight - but for nothing at all why should anyone even care....no reward AND no punishment for non pvp participation on a pvp server in this game - that just stinks and no developer has an excuse in this mmorpg day and age to take this kind of fun from us.

People can complain all they want about how pvp should be but without giving people a reason to fight they won't except at totally irratic times and only when it meets their optimum advantage i.e., high level beats up low levels [how damned boring is that]

- MINIMALLY there has to be a place to fight over. WoW in all its entry level value as an mmo - long before Battle Grounds existed, had massive gang style fights between a place called Southshore and Tarren Mill - where each side had a place to defend - guards defended their towns here - big time - it gave everyone a sense of this is us - that is them - this is our turf - that is theres -------------> super basic pvp - but it was 100 times better than what we have now almost 3 years later in VG.

Frustrating to say the least.

So true.....so true....:(

Back on topic, disciples are realy screwed when it comes to killing people, but at least they can stay alive

not really
11 mitigation and 600 str for me and I still hit around 400-500 in pvp. I dueled a bard and I wasn't even able to get off a heal before his two strikes killed me 1.5 and 1.5k almost instantly.

Like Laiboch said, we can do some casters... if they aren't paying much attention. But anything that swings a weapon at you is going to rock your world.

back when I played the disciples were the deadliest healers to run across with my sorcerer. They just kept coming and coming like a zerker or something. And man did they hurt. Ended up having to just slow em down and run like a bat out of hell.
