Heres an idea that could be fun to hear on the show.

Take my old (abandoned) idea for a "pronunciation guide of Vanguard terms" You could discuss the 'proper' way to say these new words. For instance, back in day one, we speculated on the old boards how to pronouce Sigil. Some said it was similar to seagull while the correct version is closer to Sid+Gell.

So, Telon, Mordebi, Raki... endless room to speculate and prove us wrong.

hears a great list of words.

What do you think?

Better would be a guess star commentator from Sigil to judge the responses.

Who the heck thought it was pronounced seagull??? I want to punt them, because they must be a gnome.
It is clearly Sid-jil...

I say "clearly" as a joke, because obviously it isn't. I think this would be a fun idea.

Sigil is a real word though :P And yes! In EQ for example, many players had never heard the devs pronounce names. So some of my friends and I would argue whether Luclin was "Loo-sil-in" or "Luck-lin" and whether Tunare was "Too-narr" or "Toon-air." And for the longest time I pronounced Qeynos "Quay-nos" rather than "Kee-nos."

Sid-jil
Loose-lynn (omg, lol)
Toon Aw Ree
Kay-nos

These words were not invented by EQ btw...so there shouldn't be TOO much discussion needed. But at the same time, most nationalities pronounce even known words differently...so who knows.

We'd been kicking this around pre-Fanguard. Fricka did a little something like this, but wouldn't it be awesome if we could get one of the Sigil guys on to let us know what's up? (I mean purely in terms of pronunciation - now is not the time to ask for more than that)

Actually, its Luck-lin

I asked Zack one crisp San Diego afternoon...what a letdown :(

Although he agreed it should have been "loose-lynn"

And its Kee-nos not Kay...and Toon-air...

God I rock...sorry :(

If nothing else, we can add the correct pronunciation into the Wiki for each entry (or have a compiled "Vanguard Pronunciation Guide" in there). I seem to recall we were hoping to add actual soundbites to the Dictionary.

Fricka got one of the Sigil guys to pronounce a bunch of words at Fanguard (including the name of the Kojan capital which, unfortunately, I have no idea how to spell). Unfortunately, my ability to write down pronuncation 'properly' (as in dictionary-format) is incredibly bad. I can make a "Sid-gil" kind of rough guide though.

I'll add a "Pronunciation" field to the NPC and Location-type templates in the Wiki
