I would like to see a new class type something not seen on other games.

We have the Crafter, Adventurer, Harvester and Diplomat.

I would like to see the Merchant class.

Imagine haggleing with npc's for the price of a set of goods, then taking the goods by Caravan or Ship to a far City, hireing Players to guard the Caravan against npc Bandits and then Haggleing for the sale price of the goods transported. Quests for goods needed in certain cities could be worked on, and even possibly the setup of a shop owned by the "Merchant", (with an npc coming with the shop to sell the goods stored in it by the merchant). On the pvp servers the Caravan could be attacked by Player Bandits and sold on for profit.

What do you think?

These were all ideas that were originally part of the "Vision(TM)" by combining the crafting and diplomacy classes.

(Seriously - an encounter almost exactly like what you described were in early write ups. It was a way to get adventurers and crafters working together.)

yeah, would be an interesting addition to the game. maybe something we'll see in the future (if they end up sticking to some of their original roadmap.)

One of the things I liked about some older games (Elite and Pirates come to mind) was the trading aspect. Buy things cheap in one place, then face dangers while transporting it somewhere else where it can be sold at a profit. Illegal cargo carried a greater risk, but higher rewards :pirate:

Regional trade system for diplomats should do some of this.

Hey, thanks Rabb1t ! That game reminds me of several that I played, and loved, on my Commodore 64 back in the 80's.

The Gamespot review (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/sim/darkstarone/review.html) even compares it to Elite !

I'm gonna check it out...

to be honest I would love to see some sort of "Max" price for items. Thought it would be really hard to code I would like to see it done. Where someone cannot put a certain item up on the broker for more than a certain price depending on the level/rarity of the item.

NPC's could buy your item then resell it with a certain % increase to the price they purchaed it for. Also the price would change depending on the market flux.

Course this would also probably resort in the broker hardly getting used lol.

I can just hear the whining if 90% of the elemnts from the "vision" were in the game...

"I have to do WHAT?? just to get my crafted gear to market???"

"Why do I have to interact with all these irritating OTHER players just to play MY GAME waaaaaaaaaaaaaa it's not fair waaaa"

"I HAVE to buy my stuff from a crafter??!! Waaaaaa!!"

Vision died with the cell phone and the internet. We all want it all now and we want to talk to as few people as possible en route to getting it.

At least some of this will be seen in the diplomacy sphere, once their true money-making system is in game... the trading game. Buying low from npc's, selling in other cities.

OP, you'd need to have run into more than 2 people every few hours for this to work. Therefore, I believe it is impossible.

amen!

its a shame really.
what happened to the days of patience?
play P&P games once a week for a few hours and having a blast..to wait a week for the next session.

or even the old BBS days of of MP games like legend of the red dragon, or falcons eye...getting your 20 turns in, and waiting until the next day to play.

Games like that would have NO customers in todays market of "gimme now, with no load screens, waits, barriers, complications, player interactions, or effort"

Anticipation is a emotion of the past now...its turned from "waiting excitedly for things to happen", to "people waiting while annoyed its not going fast enough"

Another game is the Space Rangers 1/2 series. It has the Elite/Galactic Trader/Pirates/Taipans aspect in that you can buy at one locale and sell at another, fighting off bandits in the process. You can also accept missions for a reward (guarding, killing, delivering, etc) ala Elite 2 and 3. However, there is an aspect of RTS in the game too.

Of course, you could also replay the remake of Sid Meier's Pirates which improves on the original.

there was actually a class like this in Earth and beyond... and there is one in EvE. Too bad that E&B is defunct, and EvE sucks

Thanks for the tip. By the way, I do have the new Pirates! That's what I play when the VG servers are down :)

Earth and Beyond ! I forgot that I played that game. I think I just played for the 30-day free trial period. Nice graphics. It was fun for awhile but I got bored fast. I also played Homeworld for a while. Really nice graphics there, but I got bored with it too.

Most of my non-MMORPG gaming time (all through the 90's) was spent with Sid Meier games: Civilization I-III, Alpha Centauri, Pirates! (old & new), Railroad Tycoon, Colonization, etc...

I guess that's why my favorite things in MMORPG's are exploring, questing, and acquiring wealth. So, I'm all in favor of a Merchant class in Vanguard.
