So my 23 bard is running from tursh to renton keep, and just as he was passing one of the hobgoblin camps blam, he's dead. Dumb me I didn't look at the combat log before releasing, but I was at full health and nothing was close to me that could attack me, much less take me from full health to dead in one second.
This is on gulgrethor, where the renton keep chunk is completely messed up in some other ways also, like not being able to form groups.
Anyone else had something like this happen?

Yeah.
Last night I was running along, and then, dead instatntly.
I hit release, but it made me just stand back up, no looting needed or anything

hasnt happened to me but i have heard of it. best thing to do is /bug it in game. be as thorough as you can in your bug post.
when you /bug I believe it also sends coordinate info as well.
the more these things get bugged the better info the dev team will have to get issues fixed.

There is a lvl 30 4 dot griffon that patrols the area I think you are talking about.

Tharridon the Mighty hangs out between Tursh and Renton Keep from time to time. He's level 50 the last time I checked, and it didn't seem necessary at any of the times I've seen him to count the dots. It wouldn't take but a twitch of his little finger to put that Bard six feet under. If he spawned on top of you, or has invisibility, you would have no advance warning. My guess is that Tharridon did you in. Consider it an honor. You have ample opportunity to chill your revenge before it's served to you.
Try to stay out of the area directly south of the westernmost hobgoblin camp until you are about due northwest of Renton Keep. I'm not exactly sure where he spawns, but I've used that rule and never aroused Tharridon's ire. I remember the first time I saw him, I was about level 11 and carefully wandering around the area looking for barbed wood. Needless to say I jumped.
I doubt that a veil griffon got you. I've had my squishy attacked by that puppy a few times, and even at level 10 it took more than one hit to make a tombstone. At around level 20, I was able to outrun it and live (nyuk, nyuk, nyuk). The griffon gives himself away by his shadow, which usually precedes the actual attack by enough time that you notice it.

I'm having it happen fairly regularly on my bard now. I cross a chunk line and suddenly - blammo! - I'm dead. There is nothing in the combat log and nothing around me but trees. Another thing that happens is that after crossing a chunk line my energy will go from full - zap! - down to 0. At least that doesn't kill me. I've never had it happen outside of crossing a chunk line, though. I've heard that this is a bug with the way our bard songs process every tick. All we can do right now is /bug it and cross our fingers when we chunk.

Happened to me but always when crossing a chunk line. Tharridon The Mighty is a possibility but he's a mighty big dude, hard to miss someone whos about 12 foot tall lol.

sometimes what happens is that you lag while chunking... you keep running (autorun ftw) get killed then your shit ports back when you render everything..

I get hit with instant death out of the blue a frustrating amount, too. And of my ten characters I have (warrior, cleric, sorcerer, dread knight, disciple, monk, ranger, blood mage and shaman) the bard gets hit with both crash to desktop and with sudden death (without crash) the most.
There's clearly a memory leak, and bards who run fast get more data coming at them quickly, and they seem to be the most vulnerable to sudden death.
That said, recall and dockmasters also seem to kill crash me and sometimes even kill me.
I wish they'd make this a high priority fix. It's been going on too long.
p.s. I'm on Gulgrethor, too. And I crash on all continents and have had sudden death twice in Qalia (once by Khal and once just running through level fields south of Khal and crossing a server line).

It's true that kind of crash+run happens a lot (the most on my bard but also to all my characters).
But this is different. This is a sudden death without a crash. No reason, nothing in journal, just suddenly dead. It's hit me a few times, too.
