Tell me about it. I've had to snowblow out my driveway every day this past week.
Still, variety is why I live here.
The building is an old feed processing grain elevator and is build of reinforced concrete. I was half expecting the demo to fail but its still pretty impressive to imagine the stresses it survived.
Their going to try regular wrecking balls and a crane starting monday but even that will be dangerous as hell.

Hahahaha, I love you Americans:
"You've got to be careful not to get too close. There's a distinct perimeter roped off here, to keep people away, to keep them safe because of liability issues."
Not because people might get hurt, but because the hurt people might be hungry for some extra cash. :D

Heh, that reminds me of a joke...
In my day, that is to say, when I was younger and lived in a state that gets snow close to sea level, we used shovels. Now I live in Southern California where snow is only associated with mountains and skiing. Weee!

Don't you just? We only care about maiming and killing people insofar as we might be held liable. Take Baghdad for instance... you know we'd rather just nuke it and not worry about it, but some of you in the global community would blame us for it. You know back in the old days, before frivolous lawsuites were "in", we could bomb anybody multiple times and no one would care for 20 years or so. :p What's happening to the world? I blame the Oloh's and Havelocks of the world.

That was funny, but obviously the company that tried to demo it has the same training as the current SOE devs... well this should work... umm well guess not!

I drove by it again today and got pretty close. Still makes me smile. Were trying to organize a "Save the leaning tower" committee as a joke but don't think it'll happen. They are bringing in a huge crane and wrecking ball from Minneapolis and plan on beating it down over the next week or two. That will be pretty cool to watch too.

Hah. Yeah, I doubt the city would want that building around much longer. Who knows what's holding that thing up. Loose rock supported by unexpected new snow? Who knows. One way or another, it could come crashing down unexpectedly for whatever reason... Better to smash it down professionally and planned than to have to crashing down without warning.
Though I have to admit. Looks pretty awesome. And hilarious.

Just to update the story.
They finally got the big crane assembled and had a huge wrecking ball brought in. On Sunday, they started beating on the tower to bring it down piece by piece. After 4 days they are down about a third of the way from the top. Here is a live webcam if you want to watch the much slower destruction.
