Sometime in the next few weeks, I'll be setting up a wireless network to connect 3 different computers in 3 different rooms.
Currently, my son plays X-box in the "front room" where his computer will actually be. The wireless router will be in my computer room. Right now he runs a 50 ft cable to the X-box from my wired router. I want to eliminate this.
I know I could wet up a wireless bridge but I have no interest in spending $100 on *his* games. That money is for *my* games :p
Any suggestions?

best option would be to move the router from the computer room to the front room, and just add a wifi card to the computer(s) in the computer room, since pci cards are pretty cheap (from 15.99 at new egg.) then you can just run a short wire from the router to the xbox...

I agree with Soronil, but I just remembered also, you might want to look at the D-Link Wireless 108G Gaming Router (DGL-4300). You can set priorities on it for YOUR game to be higher priority than his games, which is good. There's a review on Tom's Networking here (http://www.tomsnetworking.com/Reviews-191-ProdID-DGL4300.php).

Thanks for the replies guys. I don't want my router away from *my* computer because I will using a RJ-45 link to it directly. I want no lag. My son can lag all he wants. :) I love him, but hey, ya gotta have priorities.
The DGL-4300 is the one I have.

Just a few rooms away, the lag from a wireless router vs. a wired one is so little as to be negligable, for any type of game. There's not much other choices you have if you don't want to run a wire or something.

The bandwidth that you get from the wireless is going to be much greater than your broadband. 802.11g is 54 mbps where your DSL/Cable is how big? I have a 2mbps DSL connection, there is no way that the DSL is saturate my wireless network.

yeah i don't think there is a residential ISP in the US with a connection speed of more than 54mbps.. if there is, I'd probably move there=P
www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/
most cable/dsl is around 1-5mbps
oh, and not to mention, i dont think there is anyway vanguard would utilize even a 1mbps connection(if it did, alot of people would be in trouble, i'd say peak performance would be around 100-300kpbs) so 54mbps wouldn't get close to bottlenecking your gaming performance

You don't even want to think of what our monthly bills would be like if they had a dedicated 1mb stream to each of us. Cuz we would be paying for it.
