Last night at the SoE Fan Faire John Smedley announced the new game Sony has been working on and holding close to their chest, which surprisingly enough is fitting considering the new game is a card game.

Legends of Norrath:Oathbound is an MMO card and strategy game that is built into the EverQuest and EverQuest II clients. The first set has more than 350 cards. 60 card starter decks can be purchased for around $10.00 and 15 card booster packs can be purchased for around $3.00. All registered EverQuest and EverQuest II players will receive a starter deck for free at launch. Cards are tradeable with players from both games and the Legends of Norrath can be played across servers as well as across games. In other words a player from EQ can pit themselves against a player from EQ2.

Cards will also be incorporated into the game in the form of drops off mobs and they’re tradable. Some of the cards will have additional benefits/items associated with them such as unique mounts, buffs, weapon adornments, etc.

Just saw a vid of the announcement. The game is due out in "Late August" and you can find the official site here (http://legendsofnorrath.station.sony.com/).

Also, you don't have to be an EQ1 or EQ2 player to play. They mentioned you can play from an external client. :D

Videos in question:
Part 6 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuXQJz3kq2w) and Part 8 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXXuNSnFSus)

(7 is a duplicate of 6)

There are plans to develop a standalone client for the game, but as of yet there isn't one. Currently the only way to play, when it comes out, is thru EQ or EQ2

I loved the stunned silence at Fan Faire when it got announced. A great "wtf" moment, if ever there was one.

Still, I'm looking forward to something like this. Would be /really cool/ to see no prices being mentioned.. however, meta games in MMO's is definitely a step in the right direction.

No doubt it will be the same cost as most CCGs, but since you can also get cards via drop, if you mostly play one of the EQs you could probably get a lot of free cards.

Hopefully from a loot table completely separate from existing loots. Can't wait to hear the "Dammit! More of those stupid CCG cards instead of actual loot /delete"
