Hrmm, how do a create a new post on the Vanguard wiki? I see that you can make one on the Official Wiki, but how about the vanguard one? I want to add my guild to the guild section

As stated in this post (http://www.silkyvenom.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5851), you must login to the wiki portion of the site. If you are not logged in, you will not be allowed to create or update entries.

Logging in to SV does not log you in to the wiki. You must actually "login" on that portion of the site.

I am logged onto VG wiki. I still dont see the tab to make an article.

The simplest way to make an article in the wiki is to edit an existing article so that it has a wikilink to the article you want. Eg. New Article Name. Save that article and then click on the link.

If the new article is something which isn't mentioned in any current article, go to the sandbox (search for sandbox in the search tool) and add it there.

Remember to put the appropriate category on any new pages you make! [A simple way to find out what your page should look like 'behind the scenes' is to go to a similar article and click edit.]

I recently added this 'tentative policy' to the front of the Wiki. This kind of Wiki is pretty much a spoiler, but I figure we can put a little structure to our spoilers. ;)

A Warning About Spoilers

A wiki such as this will inevitably contain spoiler information. However, contributors are encouraged to use headings when constructing articles containing detailed spoiler information. After a general introduction to the content of the article, such as the location and lore of a dungeon or zone, please place a heading reading "Detailed Information (Spoilers)". For example, each zone will include at the top of the article the general game map of the area (such as is displayed in the game). Any 'marked up' maps revealing secrets and other locations should be placed below the "Detailed Information (Spoilers)" heading.

So I would just go to the guilds page http://wiki.silkyvenom.com/index.php/Category:Guilds then click edit at the top?

The guilds page is a category. You don't edit into categories, you note a category at the bottom of your guild page.

Basically, go to Sandbox, click edit, type Your Guild Name, save the Sandbox.

Then click on the link you've just made and you'll be at your new page. Type whatever in it, but make sure you put at the very bottom

Is there any way to edit wiki preferences? If I go to preferences (http://wiki.silkyvenom.com/index.php/Special:Preferences), it says it "must be set through vBulletin Control Panel" yet there is no wiki options under there.

Nolaquen would have to answer that one.

That change was made by wyrd, a former coder for SV, so I'm not sure what he intended there. I suspect, though, that since the wiki's authentication system is tied to the forums, that there simply are no per-user preferences to configure. Anything in particular that you wanted to change?

Well, it is a bit annoying that the wiki's history is shown as GMT and not the time I set on this site's control panel (EST).

How about maps? I have a couple done (Dahknarg and Lomshir) and would like to share, but I'm not sure if they should go into the Wiki or maybe the Atlas. What about format? (Currently they're in GIF, but I could try something else if that would work better.)

Therian
01-17-2007, 06:51 PM
We always welcome maps. If you upload them to the Wiki and then a map-only Atlas gets put together later, we will just transfer them from the Wiki.

As for format, the Wiki supports quite a few different formats, but does prefer smaller files to larger, so probably best to avoid the bmps.

How long does it take to show up on the Catagory page for guilds?

I followed your instructions here (I think) and my guild is not listed yet.
I can see the page I made in the sandbox, but thats it.

I am very new to Wiki and am little scared to "edit" things actually, but I want to help contribute in the future, so learning to add my guild name would be a good start.

It's because you mispelled "Category". I've fixed it.

Ok so I want to help add things in but am finding that I'm too noob at wiki to be of any help right now. Can someone please help me understand how you add an article to the NPCs? I understand the basic coding, but whenever I click on edit on the Vendors page, all it has is the text at the top of the page. It doesn't list the vendor articles that are on display. Any assistance is welcome. :(

Sounds like you're trying to edit a category.

Go to the sandbox and edit it instead. Please the name of the vendor you wish to add in brackets and then save the sandbox.

Click on your new link. An empty page will be created which you can edit. Add your details (use the NPC template if you understand templates).

Put a category down the bottom

That is how you add a vendor to that list.

Thanks for the help! With that info I was able to figure out how to add an NPC. My next question is, how do I take the border off of images? I don't like the thick orange square that surrounds the little coin icons...

You can either bug Nolaquen about it (it's part of the design), or use a frame

I added in a new Template for items to make things a bit more easier. The name of the template is called "Drop". It has everything i can think of and I will be using it as I update what all I find.

To use it all you need to do is copy/paste

into the page you are editing and fill in the correct information.

Hope you guys like it.. let me know if something needs to be changed, or if you know how to add/change it feel free to do so =)

Pages should come out something like this Twisted Resin Coated Dagger (http://wiki.silkyvenom.com/index.php/Twisted_Resin_Coated_Dagger)

Just a note: I believe Nolaquen still has plans for a formal item database.

I added in a new Template for items to make things a bit more easier.
That's what I have been using today to get as much info in as possible and its nice and consistant with the other forms

Correct me if I'm wrong, I thought I read that its better to get the info in than not on the items.

Ok this might be a silly question, but how do you register for the Wiki portion of the site? If I click on the "Create an account or log in" link and click on create account it takes me to the forum registration page, not the wiki registration page. I am not able to login to the Wiki using the information I entered there, just into the forums.

I hope to find a way around this at some point, but as it is now, the wiki can't handle any spaces or other unusual characters in usernames. Even I have to create a new account to edit the wiki since I have a ó in my board username.
