as you can see my avatar is the right size both in pixels and memory size.

Can anyone suggest anything? tried to save via web link and also uploading from my desktop.

Only mods/site staff get avatars as of now, I do believe. :)

well that is dumb.

Lol, well I'm sorry you find our rules intellectually challenged :p

But Avatars are reserved for special regognition/staff members.

It helps to keep down on thread clutter :)

Sorry for the inconvenience!

if thread clutter is a concern, i'd suggest allowing avatars, but not allowing sigs... they do a lot more to break threads up

of course, you can let "special" people have sigs if you must http://home.comcast.net/~rijak/bandit.gif

I don't mind not having avatars. Actually helps to know who are site admins and mods :)

Sooo. Avatars, which would not increase the size of the thread are not allowed... yet sigs, which can be huge in size, greatly increase the size of the thread, and be visually distracting to a reader, are allowed?

Whatever the reason, its just that way. I'm sorry for the confusion I might have added to this disscussion in another thread.

A lot of forums don't allow sigs, so be happy, and make sure they aren't huge, or offensive, and you can have whatever your heart desires as a Sig.:ninja:

Wow, for a moment I thought these guys thought this was a democracy. It's a dictatorship! All hail the all powerful Silky! May a house never fall on her...

Hehe

I personally feel that signatures tend to allow people to be be more creative, and they frequently are, than with avatars. For avatars, people tend to use random images that don't show the unique in-character style of the player.

Avatars can cause clutter and make the forum look like a mismatch blare of pictures. I prefer to have signatures allowed so as not to quell the creativity whilst leaving avatars for, as you said, us special people. ;)

I like sigs too, more creativity. But I prefer boards that have a "show once" option on sigs -- that is, you see the person's sig only on the first post by them, any others (in the current thread) exclude the sig. Helps cut down on the clutter.

Dunno if phpbbs offers that option though, but if so I recommend implementing it!
edit err well whatever software this is, guess it's not phpbbs. Custom it looks like, so get coding!

Thanks,
Nubb

My thing with that is we often can't have "whatever" we want as sigs, as typically only .jpg and .gif are accepted formats. Most of my stuff is flash, so I find those formats extremely limiting. :(

haha be lucky I didn't get my way. We'd have no sigs at all :p

Still rather have an avatar over a sig. :D

I did say whatever you want, not however you want it.

...Besides, you could animate a jpg/gif. Oh and teach me how, Banner maker pro was a little too hard to figure out for me. Although I gave up after a half hour...

Wow, that would be so nice. I have found that even half of the sigs on OVF irritate me.

You do know that the OVF lets you disable sigs, didn't you? :p

Agreed :)

And a flash signature? That sounds downright unholy.

Also, Pariath - you can animate gifs but not jpegs. GIF animation is far more restrictive than flash animation, though (and also generates larger files usually)

Unholy is the distorted colors and anti-aliasing from transfering a Flash animation into a gif to make it animate.

/cry

Original Flash (http://www.everbecoming.com/vanguard/ootssig.swf)
Gif version (http://www.everbecoming.com/vanguard/ootssig.gif)

Match their sizes and you can easily see that the Flash version is smooth and solid, while the gif version is has icky anti-aliasing. Also note a slight color distortion (easier to see in my sig on the face.)

Plus, I won't even go into all the awesomeness that a Flash (http://www.everbecoming.com) sig could be compared to GIF animation.

Looks like you have a lot of fun with flash on your site, rabb1t.

Oh, and love your sig. :D

hehehe yeah Flash is fun. Time consuming though.

hehehe yeah it's too cute. It's totally OOTS. OOTS for the win! :D

Having a tough time thinking of a last name though. I may make something up that sounds elf-ish, but currently 'Parcae' and 'Harbinger' are in the lead for non-elf last names.
