Hi everyone, I’m starting this thread to say thank you to Fozzik. Two days ago I built my first PC and I honestly don’t think I could have done it without Fozzik’s guide, or at least I would have been in one hell of a mess and it would have taken a lot longer and been far less strait forward than it was. I would especially like to say thank you for the section on ESD which most guides seem to skip. The guide also helped me a great deal in the way it progressed step by step through the build; most other sites focused far more on the technical specs and less on the practical tips which a novice (me) needs.

The computer has been running now for two days problem free which makes me very happy and I feel the need to show off my new specs :) so here they are:

AMD Athlon 64 X2

Asus A8N-SLi Premium motherboard

2X 512 3200 Corsair ram (from my old PC. I will be asking for upgrade advise;))

1X Sapphire ATI X800gto (to be upgraded once I know Vanguard’s release date)

Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 NCQ 160GB Hard Drive

Antec TruePower 2.0 550W PSU

Antec P180 SPCR Advanced Super Midi Tower Case Black (you can get these in the UK now)

NEC ND4551 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter

I also got the Saitek PZ30AU Eclipse Keyboard and the Razer Copperhead SK Edition 2000dpi High Precision Gaming Mouse.

There are a couple of things I’d like to share from my build. Fist The Antec P180 case, It’s a good case but I really wouldn’t recommend it if you are a newbie like me. I found I gave myself problems that would have been best avoided. The positioning of the PSU at the bottom of the case is a problem if you aren’t confident in what you are doing, and the wiring in this case is a nightmare. I would go as far as saying it is impossible to get it tidy. The other thing I had trouble with was fitting the Graphics card. The socket on the motherboard and the connections on the card were a long way from matching and it took some creative fitting to get the two to connect.

So thank you Fozzik for the great guide, my only problem now is I want to build another one  .

Grats on your first build, and welcome to the addiction! Fun isn't it? (and frustrating, takes more time/care than one might first assume) :)

Thanks,
Nubb

Thanks for the kind words. I'm really glad I was able to help. There's nothing like that feeling of a system booting for the first time, so as Nubb said...welcome to the computer geek club. :D

That looks like a great computer, and I hope it keeps running smooth for you. There's plenty of us around with lots to say when you are ready to upgrade your RAM and video card.

Now that you're a pro, stick around and help n00bs! We'd love to have you.
