They have brought back a simuliar combination that was offered when the FX60 was first released. They are now offering a free sli motherboard (3 to choose from) if your purchase the AMD FX55 processor. The last deal they had like this saved you $200 on buying extreme performance memory, a sli motherboard, and of course the FX55. Anyway, if anyone was waiting on a break to build their new ultimate system this could be it. At any rate, the FX55 is not dual core, but is the fastest single core. It seems to be a general consensus on this forum that dual core will be the way to go in the future. Thoughts?

Pass!
I'm still waiting on my FX-60 shipment, UBS Tracking Number (http://www.silkyvenom.com/forums/showpost.php?p=22555&postcount=1)
In lue of the above (I stopped holding my breath a couple days ago), I'm still forcing myself to not buy hardware until I really need it (aka Vanguard releases). At which time I shall create my new beast.
Oh on a side note, I saw, yesterday, that the Dell 24" monitors were on sale for $850-ish. Tempting me too, but I shall hold out... ugh!
Thanks,
Nubb

They are going down in price because the 2407 is coming out shortly and they are flushing out their existing stock of 2405. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it to go much cheaper or stay at that price for a long time :(.

That does look like a great deal, but if you're going to spend a whole bunch of money like that (as you mentioned already) I would want something dual-core. Now that I've owned a dual-core for a bit, just the multi-tasking smoothness is really almost worth it by itself. Games that utilize multiple CPU-intensive threads are already starting to show up, and there will only be more to come. It is indeed the future...which is probably at least part of the reason newegg is looking for ways to clean out stock on high-end single core parts. ;)

You got an FX-60 but passed on the Dell 24" while claiming you wait to buy hardware until it's needed?
*doesn't understand how an extreme dual core is needed more than a higher res 16:10 aspect monitor*

Gack! The references to the FX-60 in the first 2 posts confoozled me!
(See pic 2 in the sig)
Er um so thoughts on single vs. dual? I'd say don't buy an FX and just get an X2 3800+ and overclock it. Peeps report OCing it from its base 2 to 2.5 gig on air, matching the FX-60 in raw speed.

Really? I am looking to upgrade my system in a couple of months and my current system design points straight at the X2 3800+. Got any links on how they made the over clock?

Boards, no specific links. Like, filter through the X2 3800+ NewEgg reviews and the reviews on this Zalman cooler (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835118119).
Remember though, to get it to that speed you'd have to do manual OC. All those number thingies confoozle me, so I've never done manual.

To hit 2.5Ghz, all you'd need to do is up the RAM speed to 250Mhz.
I haven't looked, but I'd guess A8N-SLI and solid RAM like crucial, OCZ, G.skill, or Patriot would handle it easily.
