The Yield Sign

Does anyone in metro Boston know what the hell this means? If not, please refer to Chapter 4, Page 109 of the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles Driver's Manual (http://www.mass.gov/rmv/dmanual/driversmanual.pdf). There it states, "When you see a YIELD sign, slow down and be prepared to stop. Let vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians, pass before you enter the intersection or join another roadway. You must come to a complete stop if traffic conditions require it."

In the 9 months I have been living here, I think I've seen one person other than myself drive legally when it comes to yielding. I can't count the number of times I've seen people just blow through these signs like they don't exist, almost hitting me and others in the process. Not only that, but when I do slow down for a yield and sometimes stop, I get honked at and cussed at from the drivers behind me. WTF?!?!

I get so frustrated driving here. What's the damn hurry, anyways? Please drive safe!

Forget yield signs....right-turn-on-red has become the frickin' right of way out here. I've gotten honked at by folks when I drove through a green light because I stopped them from right-turning-on-red.

Ironically, just 2 and half years ago (when I was in college in Boston), while I was cycling down Mass Ave. accross the Harvard Bridge (I lived in the Back Bay), I was hit by a utility van ignoring a yield sign. Luckily, I wasn't hurt, but my bike was a mangled wreck.

And, yes, traffic is hell in Boston. They didn't bother putting the nation's largest road construction project in history in Boston, the Big Dig, for no reason ;) . Pedestrians never use crosswalks and wait for the walk signals. Drivers never use turn signals or obey a dozen other traffic laws (like yield signs). And everyone is constantly beeping their horn for no good reason (as if it is going to speed up traffic).

Just be safe on those clogged roads.

Boston traffic is insane. Last time I was there they where re-working some tunnels and almost every road was torn up. I feel your pain. I did have a great lobster tail though at that dock side resteraunt with all the old pictures on the wall. Was called something like Jimmy's pier 54 or somewhat to that effect. Now if you really really want to see bad traffic come to Atlanta. If you use the poor road planning and developement as a benchmark of intelligence its no wonder the North won the war. :p They hate me down here......

Signs like this; along with Stop Signs, Pedestrian Crossing Signs (and sometimes red lights!) are broken often here in Cal. Look both ways before you go to cross (or take off from a light), don't count on the driver to read the sign(s)... (or notice a yellow light).

I think its spreading everywhere to tell ya the truth, or any heavily populated area at least.

The best thing here is directional signs (freeway turn-off's, merger's, highway's, drive-thru's, ect).

Why bother with traffic signs at all in boston?

If I ever have a death wish, I'm going to boston.

I'd rather go by boat to cape cod in the summer, than drive through Mass.

It's not so bad, you just have to get used to it and be able to drive ultra-aggressively if you want to get to where you are going.
