Bored at work today, so I started rummaging through the IT department's room 'o' random computer bits. All sorts of weird, exotic, and just plain strange parts to be had in there.
Couple things in particular struck my eye.

A VIA Epia PD 6000 motherboard (http://www.mini-box.com/s.nl/sc.8/category.99/it.A/id.429/.f).
A Intel low height dual port PCI NIC (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833106202).
1U PCI riser card (http://www.mini-box.com/s.nl/sc.8/category.18/it.A/id.290/.f).
Gig 'o' cheap RAM.
PICO PSU (http://www.mini-box.com/s.nl/category.13/it.A/id.417/.f).
IDE HD to CFDisk converter (http://www.mini-box.com/s.nl/sc.8/category.14/it.A/id.206/.f)
A 1Gb CompactFlash card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820228031).

This sounds like a new home firewall to me!
The only part that I'd have to buy would be that 1gb CF card; the rest of it is just lying there collecting dust. So new custom firewall for ~$45 sounds pretty good.

What would you guys do with that motherboard, and nearly any hardware you can think of?

I'd um... set it up with this XFX GeForce 5200 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150061) pop it into a small form factor such as an Aspire X-QPack (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811144109) and sell it on Ebay as the "leet lan low end frag box"?

Course... um... those new parts are probably worth way more than the other parts.

Lmao, 600Mhz frag box.
I don't think you're fully appreciating the size of that motherboard. I'm going to wind up fitting everything into a box the size of a cigar box, roughly 10cm x 20cm x 20cm.

Leet 1996 gaming!

roughly 10cm x 20cm x 20cm.

I wish my PC were that small. I really like the size / shape of the 360.

I'm not too worried about size. Give it maybe 10 years and everything will be smaller in size.

What I don't get is why there hasn't been an integration of 'desktop' and 'laptop' parts to make a small desktop. Like say a micro ATX motherboard with the DVD / HD sizes of a laptop in a smaller box.
