Hey there folks. I didn't know where to put this so feel free to move it if it's wrong :)

My guild leader Miggy is a regular here on SV but has recently been unable to access the site. His Firefox times out every time he tries to connect.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if he's been blacklisted by your server for some reason, or perhaps another problem. He can load other sites fine, only SV.com sites are unavaliable.

If any other details are needed (IP address etc) for a server admin to rectify this then please PM me and I'll be happy to pass along the info.

Thanks in advance,

Sub

He's not banned (just double checked to make sure)

It doesn't seem to be a Firefox issue - just verified this by using Firefox to get to the site myself

When was the last time he tried? We recently changed servers and if he happened to try during that time, he may have encountered problems. In addition, we were having a lot of connectivity issues up until this past weekend.

If he's tried recently, how long before he actually gets the time-out mssg? I know there's a setting where you can change the default time before a page times out, but off hand I'm not sure where it is. Not that this would *fix* it necessarily, but...

He's been having trouble the last few days. I've gotten on fine with Firefox at the same time he's tried which makes me think it's a server provider blacklist issue. I've had similar things happen to me on some friend's sites.

Oh and Firefox does indeed rock!:pirate:

It might be that his ISP denies access to websites that do not have an IP address that resolves. We have some issues with our reverse DNS lookup that we're working to resolve (no pun intended), so hopefully it'll clear up by then. I know for a fact that some of the email generated by these boards is being denied delivery because of this problem.

Thanks guys, I hope this problem gets sorted soon. We love SV and it'd be a shame for him not to be able to access the site.

Here's hoping :D

I would laugh at the pun, Nola, but I have no idea what you just said. I am sure it is perfectly clear to those whose brains work that way, however. I have to say, though, that reverse DNS sounds like some illicit gene-tampering to me. :p

try flushing his dns DB, since the site moved recently there can be residual issues with pointing to where it was. Flush on PC and on Router if you have one, this is a kind of an out there one since the DNS record is supposed to refresh fairly regularly but if something has happened to the resolver cache then you would need to force a cleaning of the cache.

Welcome back, Miggy! I'm not sure what was going on, but I'm glad it resolved itself. :)
