Today some Canadians are still sensitive to talk of an American takeover. The two countries have at least four unresolved border disputes. In 2003 the Canadian Army set up an Internet chat room where citizens could discuss military issues. The Ottawa Citizen reported:

“One of the hottest topics on the site discusses whether the U.S. will invade Canada to seize its natural resources. Many individuals stated that if the such an attack did come, Canada could rely on a scorched-earth policy similar to what Russia did when invaded by Nazi Germany.”

That's way cool. :) I find it heartwarming to know that Canada is just as capable as the U.S. of fielding a competitive team for the Silly Olypmics.

Well, we'd have to nuke Quebec. That would get most of the rest of Canada on our side for whatever else we wanted to do. Then we could seize their, um, beer? Then we could bring our <$3/gallon gas prices, and the party would be on in earnest.

Seriously, I joke. In my travels to Canada, I have met one rude person. One. In 6 trips. These folks are uniformly the most fun and friendliest that I have met anywhere. If it weren't for the winters, I'd try to talk Branyanu into moving to BC or Alberta. (We wouldn't be invading, just emigrating. :D)

Vancouver, BC has very mild winters by Canadian standards. It may snow once or twice in a winter and it usually melts quickly. I can golf in Vancouver in January!
