A fairly good article by Havelock. I think Smedleys quote about time is actually very telling. I can't say I'm a huge fan of his ideas, or of SOE, but I have to remind myself that Sigil is a business. They are going to do whatever is best for that business, even if I don't like it. What really matters is that Sigil is doing what it takes to bring the game to market in a way that is represenitive of the information they've presented over the years.
Nothing is more important to an MMO than its initial launch. If you screw that up, your game is forever saddled with a negative reputation and it takes a lot to overcome that baggage. Too many games have been launched prematurely. If this new SOE deal gives Sigil the time it wants to get Vanguard right, then I as a prospective Vanguard player am all for that and look forward to seeing what Sigil does with the time it's bought. This is very true. As I've said so many time. With over 8 months of beta under our belt, I'm glad this game is being given the time it needs to mature and to come together. I think the extra time allotted this development will hopefully allow Sigil to find the right mix of fun and excitment.
Not even being a jerk here, geniunely curious. Are you running a Warhammer fansite, Shelby? How is that game shaping up to look?
I love the Warhammer license.

Not even being a jerk here, geniunely curious. Are you running a Warhammer fansite, Shelby? How is that game shaping up to look?Well, the game so far looks true to the Minitures, (Unfortunatly WoW looks like WAR minitures, so the endless WAR looks like WoW debate ensures) Which I usually end up pointing out that Warhammer's been around for almost 25 years now (23 to be exact). Obviously the focus is on RvR. The games producer did a good video interview here (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/warhammeronline/media.html?sid=6149214&autoplay=6149214). It pretty much sumerizes the whole game.

They need to make a 40k MMO...I think that would attract a much larger audience.

I've got a army that hasn't seen the light of day in more than 15 years.
Eh...I play 40k. I have a rougly 6000 pt. Imperial Guard/Space Marine army that I bring sometimes to the local megabattles (I've pretty much stopped after some kid picked up a Dreadnaught and accidentally dropped it, shattering one of the side weapons...I still haven't gotten over that).
Probably 4000 points worth of IG, a little over 2000 points of Space Marines and Daemonhunters. I have yet to lose a cityfight campaign...:ninja:.

I always wanted to get back into Warhammer, specifically 40k. But knowing myself, I'd have to start with a army right away, because I'd throw myself at the game.

With so many fans of both Warhammer and Warhammer 40k would you someday like to see a 40k MMO?
Of course we'd like to consider it. Who doesn't want to play a Space Marine?! However, we've got quite a lot on our plates at the moment so let's not get ahead of ourselves.

I was following Warhammer heavily until they changed the magic system. Originally it was going to be like how it is in the miniatures game. (I guess there are 'nodes' where your spells are really powerful and the further you get the weaker it gets. However, being on a powerful node can destabilize the magic and cause choas effects, like mutation.)
Last I heard, which is one of the reasons I stopped following it, this was taken out and magic will be the same way it is in every other game. Which meant, upon further examination of the game, it really didn't look all that different from what DAoC is.
I may give it another look closer to launch, but last I saw it didn't appear to be offering anything new. That isn’t a bad thing (WoW doesn’t offer anything new and I played that till I got a Warrior to 60), but with games that are doing new things I’m focusing my attention more on those.

I dabbled in Warhammer for a while.
I have an amusing Skaven army (poorly painted), some Brettonian knights (usually used as allies for *drumroll*) - some pretty cool Woodelves (with some awesome, by my awful standards, painting). I don't have a huge amount of any of them, but it was fun. I got the Horned Rat and Doom-bell thing for my skavens.
I also have some Lizardmen from a starterset... but they really suck. :)
Good times... I don't think I've ever got all the way through a battle with anyone. :p

Which meant, upon further examination of the game, it really didn't look all that different from what DAoC is.Perhaps the biggest problem is that many people keep thinking about the Warhammer Online game being developed by Climax, but that got canceled. Almost a year later, GW gave the job to Mythic to make the game. They've started over using no assests from the last job and are recreating the whole thing. As far as magic is concerned, they haven't commented on magic at all in the new game. So what magic will be like, I'm not sure. Though Mark Jacobs did mention something about a fumbles table possibly.
