Thanks Raya for posting the news !

I think it's important for people to make it apparent how far IGE will go. Of all the sites that they might have made an offer to, this has to be the single site where that possibility is beyond question. And yet they try....

Ok, so shall we make a poll now on how many more VSV gets before the schlubs give up for good? I'll start the bidding at 5 attempts within 12 months.

I hope they come again, i hope they keep comming. I wish i could see the faces when No No NO comes up after we get off the ground and running.

100 bids and it wont matter. We plan to bring you a real FANsite...NOT a commercial for a morally bankrupt company. We are not close mouthed, nor will we hide things from you. We will be direct, and open to all. There are no dollar signs hidden in the code here.

**** IGE

Anyone have any questions?

So is it a power trip on IGE's part or is it running scared? I hope the latter is true.

Think about what happens if Blizzard and Sigil are able to do two things:

1) Figure out how to legally fight, slow down or stop char/item/plat sales and
2) have a significant portion of the player population that cannot use IGE's offers.

Other companies may follow suit cutting IGE's profits even more and, even though this is a far-fetched hope, maybe the ethical standards of online gaming communities will discourage the idea that playing a game by buying your way through it is a good thing.

We can hope!

I take it to mean one thing...

IGE can tell this site is going to kick ass when it gets up and running.

I'm guessing there will be more offers, and more chances to thumb our noses at the organized crime of virtual property sales. I can't wait to see what Oloh and Sigil have up their sleeves for these guys.

IGE can try to buy all the sites they want, in the end they are wasting their money. This game, and this community, will never be for sale. Nothing IGE can do will ever convince this player, and many others like me, that they aren't criminals and cheats of the lowest order; appealing to player's least endearing qualities in order to make their proverbial buck.

IGE is taking this seriously, and so should this community. We're fighting for the continuation of a genre we love. Bring it on, I say.

85k for a site that doesn't even have regular news updates? :P Not very rational...seems more like the response from a pissed off kid than a professional company...

That offer is astounding. A company that offers that much for a relatively raw fansite...yikes. I can't help but wonder what they would offer to put an employee of a MMOG on thier payroll either to tranfer raw plat and items to them for resale or to code in quest loopholes and bugs that are easily and exclusively IGE exploitable. $850,000 to the lucky dev? Its only 10 times the VSV offer.

How do you prevent it?

Well, if they do that it becomes a criminal action, I think. Industrial sabotauge or bribes or whatever. Right now its legal (to buy out sites) just not morally right. And even the selling and buying of ingame items with RL cash is in the gray zone..whereas buying an employee wouldn't...

Thats sorta my point. The whole IGE secondary market reminds me of organized crime but only on an international scale.

Have any of you folk with insider infoz ever heard of such an attempt?

Wanted to drop a message to say "way to go! *high-5*" to Oloh and all. $85k for something as new as this would make anyone think twice.

I'm getting ready to launch my little home on the vanguard web. (I don't expect it to be in competition to full-fledged fan sites as it's intended as a class/race-specific one.) I wonder if we can get all of the fan sites together to form a kind of alliance or support network for staying off IGE's hand.

I think their attempt at buying out VSV has something to do with the fact that the owner - Oloh - is pretty close to Sigil. Closer than even those other fansite admins who have sold out. They've struck pretty close to home buying out Okratas, but buying out VSV would have been even closer (since they can't just go out and buy Sigil outright).

In any case, I have high hopes for VSV. :D

Say what?! Okratas got bought out? I guess I've been under a rock.

Craigts, yeah, Okratas among others. To bring you up to date, I believe there were six of the original 14 fansites that were bought out by IGE. Go here (http://www.silkyvenom.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38) for our story on the Silky Venom offer. There is more information on the official Vanguard forums in the Off-Topic section--a post by Abigale Seashadow regarding Loss of Vanguard Affiliate sites. Go here (http://www.vanguardmmog.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=10340) for that thread.

This whole thing is the main reason Silky Venom the Vanguard fansite was born.

Anyhow, stay tuned. We will be bringing out more information on this subject in the near future.

Roaches may be the only thing that will survive a nuke showdown but there the only thing that dies when you call the Orkin Man.
