Did any of you play EverQuest1? And did you stop playing it a year (or longer) ago?

I myself have played EverQuest for about 5 years in total. Every now and then I remember some things that happened back then, how I felt, how it used to be to get lost in Black Burrow, or fight the biggies in Kael for the first times, etc. etc.

Most of these are little more than memories. Good memories most of them. But some things I documented back then, in the form of a diary enriched by some illustrations.

I stumbled upon this diary again last week and it was simply great reading through all these experiences again, reliving them in all their colours.

And I thought, what the heck, maybe it's fun to share. So I'm putting the link down here.

My Druid's diary (no, not what they call 'dr00d', I'm not that kind of person)

NOTE: The website has this nasty feature to only allow the downstream of a certain amount of MB per hour. So if many people visit the link in a short time, content may stop showing. If that is the case, my apologies, and please try again later.

PS: Also in Vanguard I intend to keep a travel-journal (online) which will probably become a lot bigger than what you see in the link above (it is actually only part of the diary).

hehehe that's kinda cool. I only played from release to 1.25 years out but I suppose if I had a 'diary' it was always available. bla bla bla (http://www.everbecoming.com/eq/)

Though, I suppose mine would be more of a 'blog' before blogs existed, since it was mostly ramblings from the player, not the character.

I think I have some old screen shots in the box buried behind my roomies 10,000 layers of crap in the garage. :p

Most of what I still have, aren't much more than screenshots of memorable times, and interesting places. Every one of them has a story of its own, but something was definitely missing when I snapped them from the game.

I used to think how nice it would be to actually be able to keep a diary "within the game". Something like wordpad, that you could link snapshots to within the games interface, and later export to exhibit on a fansite or the like. Or even just as personal memorabilia. A chronicle of a players in game experiences, that they could share with others, or use to look back on thier own progression through the games timeline.

Which brings me to the games interface.

WoW utilises "interface addons". While i'm aware they can be quite beneficial, many of them become a "requirement" for guilds, and even for enjoyable play to the single player. I don't think interface addons should really benefit the player as anything more than an "aesthetic" value. Which is why the interface should include as much "fluff" as possible right out of the box. But with options to turn on and off, the "fluff" the player chooses to utilise.
