Ok, what's that dot-dot-dot thing supposed to mean, anyway? It seems like the latest internet fad. As with most fads, I'm left in the dark about it.

Well, great.

Here I am, bored as I fly the griffon rout from Ironforge to Westfall. Put a hot pocket in the microwave. Tab out to check Silky Venom, hmm, what's this dot dot dot thread ... open it up, and a gnome butt farts at my face.

How evil.

Yer on the list! Somewhere, someday, a goblin is sure to fart on ya in Telon when ya least expect it.

*fart*

Once while I was working, a kid comes up to me and says... "wow! smells like someone is cooking something good!"

I looked at the kid and replied "what you smell is my fart..."

I had just passed a doozy, and yeah.. it was good food :)

Still, you had to see the change of exspression on that kids face for full appreciation :p

... = el·lip·sis

1. The omission of a word or phrase necessary for a complete syntactical construction but not necessary for understanding.
b. An example of such omission.
2. A mark or series of marks (... or * * *, for example) used in writing or printing to indicate an omission, especially of letters or words.

Atoyota, that's, like, really, REALLY, gross. That poor kid...

Oh and I've always heard that ... by itself is just to express shock. So, someone says something really shocking, and people respond with ...

I use it all the time when typing in instant messanger or in a game. On here I use pretty proper grammar, but in a game I type differently for whatever reason. i'm not sure why that is...maybe i feel like i'm typing as though i'm speaking to someone in person
that could be but i don't really know...probably just habit
my use of "..." is definitely to inform the person that i'm pausing to collect my thoughts or change tone or change ideas...something along those lines

Well, people do pass gas... Sometimes people venture into the cloud and politely walk off without comment. This particular time... the kid makes an innocent remark, and actually compliments my "creation". Under normal circumstance (were this an adult) I may have ignored the comment or offered a more polite reply. I just felt this was a "golden oppurtunity" and well... I was blunt.

Yes poor kid... but no harm, just a little physcological scarring :D

I usually end every sentence in game with ... Why do I do it? I have no clue really, I just do. I'm not even sure when I started doing it either.

i tend to use it as a way to express something thats probably better left unsaid. or sometimes what you have just heard is so incredulous that its the only response. ( ie rendered you speechless)

As for the ... I don't know why but it always seems to convey an annoyed or otherwise uncofortable tone whenever I see it used.

"Well yeah..." "Hi...fancy seeing you here"

maybe I'm just weird like that = \

i use the elipsis (...) for dramatization of what I write... sort of like the dramatic pause before an important realization or announcement

The awkward silence is an important tool in destroying a discussion or weak arguement, and the elipsis makes it possible in text. :D
